  1. Alright, well I just came from taking it and....

I feel somewhat confident, but I am still very worried about what my score is...:)

I know that CLEP expects you to get a little over half the questions correct. What about this particular Dantes test? The test had 112 questions, but the questions only had four answers...so I would assume they would expect you to get around 65% of the questions correctly.

Also, how long does it take to find out the results? I figure on calling them next week sometime, but my proctor said 4-6 weeks...yuck...

    Thanks in advance

The Dantes exams I took, including Civil War and Reconstruction, took an average of 13 days. That is if your proctor doesn't leave them in her purse for a week or two.

Don't waste your time calling. If at least three weeks haven't gone by, they don't want to talk to you.

BTW...the Civil War exam was the hardest out of the 16 exams I've taken. I barely passed with a 47.

Took 25 days for my score to arrive and I also just squeaked by with a 47. Tough exam.

What did u use to study for this exam?

  5. I used instacert, it was a help...but I'm still worried about my score...there were some questions that were very easy and some questions that were very difficult..I know I answered at least half of the questions correctly, but not sure if I answered 60%.

This exam and R/F Soviet Union were
2 exams I studied the most for. Read a whole book for Civil War, the name of which I cannot remember! It was an encyclopedia of about 200 pages. Bits
and pieces of a few others concerning battles.

Saw a few Ken Burns films. Had no practice exam save 12 ques. fact sheet so I did not fool around. Don't just know battles but also reconstruction and prewar stuff. A little tougher than I thought it would be but not too bad and got a 64.

This was however before Ted Heiks and this board for me! Ask him about where to study or just ask him any Civil War ques. and he'll know.

I have to concur with FWD. CW and R/F of the Soviet Union were two of the most difficult tests I've ever taken, including finals for regular classes. I passed both, but I'm not sure how. :D I used college text books to study. I can’t remember now which one's I used, but they were for an American History I class (up to and including Reconstruction) and a Modern European History class. I imagine any textbooks covering the subject matter should suffice.

One thing I noticed about both exams (but especially, and disappointingly for me) is DON'T focus on battles and such. Worry more about the why and who. Both of these tests focused on the reasons behind the battles and not the battles themselves.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I agree Ryan! Somewhere I read that generals and battles were the most important thing to know but on exam I took that was not the case. Fair amount of pre and post war stuff. In the end though be familiar with everything. One reason I studied so much is because it was so interesting.

I thought it was something about the Guelph's and the Ghibelline's. Rat's.
