    Hi:

I am taking the level 1 and level 2 Spanish CLEP exam this Saturday. I plan on enrolling at Charter OAk State College later on. When you take a CLEP exam, are their transcripts kept by CLEP? What I am wondering is let's say next year I apply to COSC after taking these exams, do I just have CLEP send COSC the transcripts?

    Please advise, Thanks, Abner

P.S. Would the test center maybe mail me a sealed copy of the CLEP transcript to my home?

The test center should give you a copy of the score after taking the exam. They do not keep your scores at the test center.
CLEP keeps your scores on file for twenty years. You can request a transcript from them. I think the cost is $15.00

    Transscript

When I took my first test last week the computer gave me the option of sending my scores to a school. I went ahead and did it because they charge you to do it later. At least that was my understanding. Hope this helps. J

CLEP transcripts are $20. Just had to send a pair out. They are maintained seperately for CLEP taken at a test center and those taken through the military DANTES program. I understand that CLEP holds these scores for 20 years though some schools have a shorter validity period for credit (especially business exams).

Even if school A puts the CLEP credit on a transcript, if you transfer somewhere else, the new school will most likely require a transcript from CLEP and not from school A for those tests.

Example, my transcript from Coastal Carolina University includes two courses (ENG 101 and ENG 102) among others which are based on CLEP tests. They are listed with this school's course numbers and no grade. Excelsior will require that I send the CLEP score transcript if I want credit for those two tests and will not use the opinion of Coastal Carolina.

Sending a score to a school you're not presently enrolled at may be a waste of time but can't hurt. Many schools only hold material from non-matriculated students for 6 months. Others don't hold such material at all. It's like sending a FAFSA result to a school you're only considering attending -- it doesn't do any damage but may not help either.

    Thanks

Ok thanks, one more question. Are CLEP transcripts like college transcripts? In other words, if I take five CLEP test at different locations, do they go to a central CLEP location that will show all five CLEP test results on one transcript?

    Please advise, Thanks, Abner :)
I hope I did not make my question to confusing :)

Yes. With the exception that tests taken through a military or DANTES testing center may be reported on a seperate report than those taken at a testing center.

One key difference to remember about CLEP transcripts is that you can withhold some results when you have a transcript sent to a school.

Let's say you take all of the CLEP General exams but only get a passing score on the Math and the Humanities...

You can ask that CLEP only report on the particular transcript only those tests with a passing score OR you can specify exactly which tests you want reported.

By suppressing some tests, you may be able to improve your perceived repuation and at some schools your GPA. :D
