Help- I'v taken 2 CLEP exam, and failed them both. 1st Social Science/History, 2nd, American Gov. 46 on one, 45 on other. I used CLEP Official Study Guide and Instacert. I knew the questions on both, backwards and forwards. When taking the test, there were many subjects/terms that these items did not cover. I'm going to take Educational Psych. next any suggestions for complete study guides. Please help, becoming frustrated.

You may try using a complete textbook, instead of a mere study guide. CLEP's are supposed to measure your knowledge of a typical freshman undergraduate course after all. Perhaps you are trying to get by without learning all the material in the first place?

I agree with alexn. You seem to be badly underestimating your examinations. I have the official CLEP study guide, and I never used it to actually study from. I used it in order to get a good idea of what kind of study materials to gather. When I studied American Government, I actually bought a book on the subject, and read it three times. Carefully. I also bought an introductory text on the Constitution, and read that.

When I studied American History, I went to the library and checked out and read three books, researched each of the US presidents in the relevant time period, and did other research.

For some exams, I'll look online at various colleges for a course syllabus that looks good, buy the required textbook, do the assigned readings and do homework (even though I don't pass it in, of course).

You need to take the CLEPs a bit more seriously.

Thanks for the replies. Do you have any suggestions for material for Educational Psych. that you found helpful and complete for the exam?

I used the Barrons How to Prepare for Advanced Placement US Governement and Politics. I think I got a 59 (I needed a 50) but I studied for only about a week.
