Well, I got my results today. Unfortunately, I missed passing by "2 POINTS", unbelievable. I am speechless.

Wondering what to do from this point? Is it worth taking again, or should I just find an online stats course? I read that I have to wait 6 mos before retaking it, I guess I could take an online statistics in that amount of time and be sure to pass. Do not want to wast any further time, money or aggravation, lol. Very bummed right now.......sigh, sigh.

If anyone has referrals for online statistics courses I would very much appreciate it. I checked into Univ of Phoenix, but I think they are EXTREMELY expensive -- $1320 for one course...too rich for my blood for just the one 3-credit course.

  2. Bummer...so close. Basically with a scaled score this means probably the difference of only one or two correct answers.

Another option for you is the Excelsior Statistics exam, which is around $150 or so. Perhaps with a few more hours of study this will push you over the line? Otherwise I'm sure there are more cost-effective DL Stats courses out there that you could take.

Good luck, and if we can help further just let us know!

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Bummer indeed

Bummer indeed! I'm sure your state has an online stats class, but if not, here is a link to a 10 week self paced class here in Lakewood, Washington. I take online classes from these folks a lot (my wife is an instructor), and I just finished up my Associates degree on Monday using some of these classes in combination with challenges and testing.

Best to you! I am looking at trying the DSST stat exam before summer is over.

Hi Sean. Thanks for the info and the link to Pierce. So, any civilian can take an online class there too? Is it a regular community-type college in Washington?

Just trying to get an idea if they are accredited since I want to be able to transfer these credits to my local community college here in New Jersey. I wonder how I could find that out?

    Thanks

Pierce College in Lakewood Washington is a regionally accredited community college. They have several campuses, including those at Fort Lewis and McChord AFB (both in Washington State).

Anyone can enroll there, military and civilians. The link I sent you is for the military site, since they have self paced online classes (the other campuses are not self paced). I thought that would serve you best. You may pay a premium for out-of-state tuition, but I'm not certain of this.

I have taken several distance learning classes there, and since they are RA, the classes will transfer into other RA accredited institutions.

I hope this helps to end your statistics frustrations! :)

Hey Sean, thanks a lot for your fast response! Yes, this whole statistics "mess" is a nightmare for me. It would have been so much easier to just pass the darn exam, but that was not my luck this time, lol!

I have sent an e-mail message to the advising dept asking how to proceed. It would be ideal to get into the slower paced online class through the military site. You are right, checking about tuition was next on my list. I so want this over with, but I don't want to get slammed too hard, lol, being an out-of-stater. I think I saw a page with tuition costs, and will check later on.

    Thanks again for the info!

Someone just turned me on to this link, which might work better (cheaper?) for you. I like that the classes I need are only $90 online. It's in New Jersey (where I used to come from, and where you are, correct?)

    http://www.pccc.cc.nj.us/library/courses.html

They do list an online stat class. :)

Yes, I am in southern NJ. This is Passaic County, which is more north, towards New York I believe. Thanks, I will check it out.

The University of Wyoming offers a class called "Statistics and The World" that may meet your needs (although it does not satisfy the statistics requirements for business majors at UW - I had to take the DSST exam). Tuition is very reasonable @ $127.00/credit hour. Here's a link:

    http://ecampus.uwyo.edu/index.real?action=Catalog&sem=11511&node=8216&course=2031919

Best of luck - I know studying for my DSST was a bear. If you decide to simply try it again in six months, let me recommend Princeton Review's "Cracking The AP Statistics Exam" - it's the only reference material I used, and I ended up with a scaled score of 75.

Hey pacosta - I'm sorry if I got you nervous about the exam! I personally found it very difficult, but I haven't had any kind of math for quite some time, and I went into it really dreading it to begin with.

Sorry to hear the news--just a temporary roadblock. Check out a Peterson's Guide to Distance Laerning at your local bookstore chain. It looks like there are about a couple hundred colleges and universities offering online stats courses. Representative sample: U of Arizona, UT-Austin, U of Nebraska, U of Wyoming, Oklahoma State, U of Pittsburg, Kansas State, Johns Hopkins, Indiana State, U of Iowa, U of Missouri. There are also tons of smaller schools that are probably cheaper. Chances are that State U in your state offers such a course, probably for under $400 all-inclusive.

    Best to you!

Thanks for the uplifting info, mrw! I have been doing some research, and for some reason not finding too many online stats courses? Now, at least I have something to go on.

I have kind of changed direction and now beginning to study for the Excelsior A&P exam. Hope to be ready by end Nov/Dec. Putting stats on the back burner for the next few months in order to give myself time to find the most appropriate school/class for me.

But, still dreading it whenever it rolls around again, lol!!!
