Does anyone know whether or not the Dantes test is open to non-military personnel? When I visited Peterson's website, the testing places are on military installations.

Not so. You don't say where you are, so here goes...

I am taking two DANTES exams tomorrow at a community college in Dallas. Here's a couple of points for you...

I have read (in this forum) that the list on the website isn't very accurate. Try the toll-free number you see on the website and ask them to verify testing centers in your area.

You might call around to schools in your area and ask for the assessment or counseling department. You might get lucky.

Is there a University of Phoenix in your area? That is a strong possibility.

You might have to study hard, read this forum for advice, study harder, and then travel (within a couple hours). Many around here do it. Study and schedule well and you can knock out two or three in a day. Makes the trip worth it.

    Good luck

Sorry, unixman got ahead of me since I type so slow.
History (I think) has it that the DANTES exams were for military and later the civilians had access to them.
If you search a bit on this forum, there has been talk that some bases have allowed civilian test-takers. Go ahead and call those you found in the guide. Never hurt to ask. And they might be able to point you in the right direction.
    Good luck.

It's tough to find Dantes test centers - call every place you can! I had to drive into Washington DC to take my Dantes tests - but it was well worth it. The drive was the hardest part!

    Thanks everyone for your comments

In addition, I live in the Washington, DC area. Yes, I do believe there is a University of Phoenix here also.

I'm pretty close to Dallas, but have been struggling with this too...where did you go to take these tests?

    gsmckee,

THANKYOU!!! This is so helpful! I live pretty much in the middle of both locations so that's great news!

So, how did the testing go for you? Any words of wisdom to share?

    E.
