Maximum time for DANTES exams?

  1. Hi everyone,

I know that DANTES exams are as a general rule not timed. However, is there a time limit that anyone has experienced?

I ask this because at my local test center I heard of a person who takes 8 hours to write 2 exams. While I don't expect everyone to finish in 90 or 120 minutes, this seems a bit ridiculous, plus it also holds up the administrator on a Saturday for hours after everyone else is long gone.

Is there an allowable time limit that DANTES test centers can impose?

    Cheers,

Well, the official DSST testing guide says "Many DSSTs can be completed in 90 minutes or less; however, additional time can be allowed if necessary."

I did once take a few tests at a college testing center that charged by the hour. Perhaps that would be a good method of ensuring rapid test completion? :)

I took my first four dantes tests yesterday and today and find it hard to even imagine that someone could take 4 hours for a test (at ~90 questions.) Two minutes and 40 seconds per question? On average? Wow!

On the other hand, perhaps this person has a disability of some sort. Looked at through that lens, it doesn't seem as preposterous.

  4. I agree - my quickest DANTES was under 25 minutes, including filling in my personal information on the bubble sheet.

You raise a good question - and something that warrants further investigation by the test administrator.
