I think it only fair to post, since I have been reading this forum picking up hints for quite some time;)

I attempted to CLEP Micro a few days ago, and TBH I only got a 43. I really should have been alot more prepared and only reviewed the "Cliff notes" book which seemed good but really did not cover the material that was on the test:rolleyes:

Got to wait 6 months before I can retest (NYU requirement), but I would like to CLEP it again and also Business Law in June. If I can get these two under my belt, I should be able to graduate by the end of the summer:) If anyone has any suggestions for these two tests, I would be grateful.

Just a footnote, because of information I found here I was able to apply to NYU for "Life Experience" and when I finished there process I received 30 credits. Awesome:cool:

    Hi Viper,

Just curious as to which NYU school accepts CLEP. The School of Continuing Education (if that's what it's still called)?

  3. Hi Viper,

The Barron's Business Law book looks pretty good (taking Business Law I and DANTES Business Law II in March). For Business Law II I'll probably pick up another text from half.com that's on the DANTES list (for current and future reference).

For the bain4weeks.com site I notice that there is an AND for Economics...to quote Lawrie (underlining is mine):

Use Cliffs Quick Review, "Economics", and the MacMillan Master Series, "Mastering Economics", or any other survey of Economics will do, really.

I purchased the Cliffs book but also am covering off with other resources to be sure.

Did you do the sample tests in advance, especially from the CLEP Official Study Guide? This gives you a pretty good idea of how you'll fare.

BTW - you'll have to wait 6 months to retest for Economics (that's a CLEP rule), but do you have to wait 6 months for Business Law?

    Good luck...

    Cheers,
    Mark

Mark, to be honest I think I rushed it a little, I did a review the CLEP questions once or twice. I guess you could say I was test driving to see if I could just breeze thru :( I will pay more attention next time.

I only did the Micro test, have not done the Law one yet. Yes you are right about the CLEP retesting and having to wait 6months regardless.

    Thanks for the info Mark.

This isn't to bust 'em, Viper, but to hopefully impart more information.

I was an NYCer for 53 years and at one time thought of attending what's now the SCPS. One thing I was told was that graduates of an SCPS degree program, wishing to go on to a regular NYU degree, would be evaluated as would be a graduate of an outside school. The same is likely true of "extension" programs at other schools and a topic not, to my knowledge, much covered in this forum.

No worries Decimon, I'm a big boy now:D

However you do bring up a good point, one which I did consider before signing up @ NYU/Paul McGee/SCPS or what ever they want to call it tomorrow. SCPS or another name The Real Estate Institute has a MS program in real estate for years. The BS program is pretty new, about the year 2000 so in some respects I am riding on coat tails.
    1. They have a great reputation for Real Estate in NYC, which is the field I am currently employed.
    2. No matter what happens, the parchment will say "New York Univerisity" and not any individual school.

I do hope my money and time invested pays off, because I would like to continue my education (at cheaper rates). I am 41 years old now and I am wondering what the time value of money is for me to continue at this stage in my life.

I just scored 65 on the micro CLEP yesterday. I used the Barron's EZ 101 and the sample test from CLEP.

Does it have to be micro???

Was mIcroeconomics "THE" requirement or your choice?
If your requirement is for "An" economics credit (or course), you might not have to wait if you go take the mAcroeconomics test. Different scope of the same animal... Study up ! ! !

Oh, and this too... DANTES Money & Banking is good for 3 Hours of Upper Level -- usually transferable as an "econ" upper level.

Re: Does it have to be micro???

    Requirement

I am very interested in more information on mAcroeconomics test. NYU only accepts CLEP, Excelsior and AP equivalency and I would rather not wait the six months to take it again if I don't have too.

    Thanks gsmckee for the info.
