Hi Everyone, I am planning to take the following CLEP and DANTES exams and need study material to prepare. I need your recommendation on books that I should buy to score >60. Natural Science DANTES Here's to Your Health Criminal Justice Statistics Appreciate your reply .... Thanks !
Comex, Review for the Clep Principles of Management Examination Comex, Review for the CLEP Business Law Examination For some Humanities tips, see this thread: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10843 Cheers.
Have you taken the practice tests first? The Management CLEP in particular is so simple that I doubt any adult needs to study to get 60 or above. I have heard the Health Dantes is similiar. Best of luck.
Thanks guys for the info. Maybe more members will provide useful reference and books that they have used and got good grade. No Dave I have not tried the sample questions yet. I will give it a shot. In the mean time I am compiling book list so I can start purchasing, sometimes needed books are not available.
Are sample questions available free of charge anywhere on the Web? ETS charges $10 to download the official practice test, and of course any of the preparation books would be better value for the money.
Mark, I bought the CLEP official guide which has all the sample questions. its is good value as compared to buying individual course questions.

-Principles of Management- I used Barron's Business Review Management for this test. I read only the review boxes as I already had some experience in this subject. I think that I scored a 72. -College Mathematics- I used Princeton Review's Cracking the CLEP and scored in the high 60's or low 70's. I don't remember. -Introductory Business Law- I am using Barron's Business Review Business Law. I haven't taken the test yet (I am taking it this Wednesday) but I think the book is very much up to the task. -Humanities- I used the Comex Humanities book along with a huge history of art book to supplement my knowledge of literature. This was a very tough test for me. I scored a 57. -Social Sciences and History- I have read some Sociology, Psychology, and Economics textbooks, as well as a late U.S. history book. Although I found this test extremely easy, the subject matter is so broad I believe I would have done just as well using commonsense and the latent learning accumulated through life. In fact, that is exactly what I did use for most of the test. I believe I scored in the low 70's. -Natural Science- The must for this test is basic biology. I studied that with the Schaum's easy outlines book, and supplemented my study with free sources online in physics, chemistry, et cetera. Also, commonsense can help you on this test. I scored in the high 60's. I have looked at the Here's to Your Health and Criminal Justice tests and believe that any general Cliffs Notes type book will easily suffice. For the Dantes Statistics I am also relying on Cliffs Notes and supplementing it with online resources. Best of luck, Tony
I found this website that has some video and DVD training in some of the subjects in which you can CLEP, and DSST test. Standard Deviants
Western Civilization: I found the "Harpercollins Western Civilization outline" by Kirchner useful for the Western Civilization II so I am guessing the first one would be useful for the Western Civ. I exam as well. I also read J. M. Roberts "History of the World" and then some of his "History of Europe" to make sure I covered all the topics listed in the test guide.
CLEP Humanities -- Western Humanities authors Matthews & Platt, I also Googled the various periods and artists Social Sciences and History – Barrons American History to 1877 DANTES Here's to Your Health - Family Health for Dummies Criminal Justice - Introduction to Criminal Justice authors Newman, Anderson Hope this helps. Tom
Thanks everyone for the info. I will summarize the list here later and let you know which one I bought (possibly along with my scores). This would serve as a good reference for others also.
I'm also collecting information for study guides. You might want to check out ebay from time to time. I've ordered 4 study guides from a lady that has composed her own guides after taking notes from actually sitting for the exams. I'm waiting for them to come in, but I have a good feeling from emailing her back and forth. Also, there are tons of textbooks on ebay for as little as .99. You might want to look at these from time to time. I've found a lot of the actual cliff's, barron's, etc. for a fraction of the cost of amazon. Working on building my own little library, you never know when this stuff might come in handy as you go forward. Anyone have a good ethics guide?
A correction to the URL I posted above (which leads you to some Internet marketing site). The Free University project is located at: http://www.freeuniv.com/
Question Does Clep or DANTES have testing that I can use for my liberal arts requirements at a Bachelors level? I understand it must be at a 300 level or higher to count. Where do I look to see a listing? Paul
