I'm considering enrolling in an online DBA program and found the one from Capella with concentration in Strategy and Innovation the closest to my professional interests. The cost is relatively reasonable, but I'm not sure yet how solid the curriculum is and how rewarding (professionally) the experience is. Most posts about Capella on this forums are from 2008-2009 timeframe, and things may have changed since then...

    My questions are:
    1. How rigorous is the program?
    2. What can you tell me about the experience as it pertains to the support structure (professors, advisors, mentors, cohort / peer network)?
    3. How are DBA degrees from Capella percieved by the academic world and the corporate world? What's the reputation?

Ideally someone who attended a DBA at Capella would share their experience.

If someone could recommend a distant learning DBA program on the same topics with better reputation than Capella (yet similar cost) it would be great!

    Thank you in advance!
    Eugene

    TEKMAN Semper Fi!

I was a Capella University's Ph.D student for a year. I was not really happy with the teaching method of Capella at all. If you are looking for the program like Capella's DBA in Strategy and Innovation. I am somewhat skeptical about the Doctorate title because, DBA is confusing when you use it in your signature and/or business card. Although Capella University does not have bad reputation, but I would recommend to avoid profit school.

If you are interested in Research Doctorate, University of Leicester offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Management with any research topics that professors' interests.

I plan to enroll into the program with interests in Risk Management on Information Systems and Technology.

I decided to enroll in DBA program offered by Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University. Just finished reading the business research courses material, and read a few dissertations/theses published by their DBA students. From what I can tell so far, this is incredibly demanding and rigorous program, with high quality outcomes.
Now that I understand the basics of business research I really don't see how Capella tells students that they start writing the dissertation from day one... it takes a literature review to prove a gap... but may be it what happens in reality and the rest is marketing spin.
