    Hey everybody,

First post here.. Looking for some insight. I recently applied, was accepted, and registered for courses for University of Tennessee Chattanooga's online MBA program. Now, after checking out the Blackboard learning platform (which is not great) and some of the syllabus, I'm getting cold feet. the UT system is respected, and the school is accredited, but I'm still worried about laying out the money for the program, and if it will actually advance my career (currently in business analytics). I have an undergrad in Sociology, so I was hoping to use this to bridge any education gap I may have.

Note: My employer will pay for everything except for around 10k.

    Thoughts? Advice?

I felt the same way when I enrolled in my MBA program. After the second class, my nerves calmed down considerably. The learning platforms are a roadblock until you start to use them a little everyday, after the first class, it shouldn't be an issue.

Only you can answer the concerns about the money, time and if it will advance your career. I did not need an MBA for my current position, but it has opened up doors for some job offers I wouldn't have been qualified for before the MBA.

Only owing 10K after it is all done, I wouldn't hesitate.

As you said the university is respected, so for only 10k out of pocket, it's an easy call. You already have a career in business analytics so maybe you could change "bridge" to enhance/advance.

well, know that any learning platform has a period of adjustment to get used to it; that will all work itself out before the end of your first class no doubt and you'll be zipping around in no time.

As for the ROI....I can't say. If my employer is paying, I'm working it every which way to squeeze out every. Single. Penny. 10k is still a heavy chunk, especially if you're going to borrow it. Being "respected" is too subjective imo, being accredited is a given, I'd need some harder convincing if it were *me, but I see no harm in at least taking 1 semester and giving it a go. Many programs (not all) will accept 1 or maybe even 2 grad courses in transfer, so there's always that option if you're really not feeling love for the school.

Are UTC MBA online classes a full semester or 7 week terms? I tried looking into that and could not find it.

I can't really think why it wouldn't be beneficial to your career. 10k is a pretty good deal for an AACSB accredited degree. I would think any future career opportunities that the MBA would help you get would boost your salary by at least that much.

I pretty much had the same thought process. Surely the MBA will give me a 5-10k bump and pay for itself within a couple years. Thanks everybody for the encouragement, I'm absolutely going through with it.

@WR213, the classes are 7 week terms, Spring, Summer, and Fall.

I think that the only one you can compare to based on apples to apples (AACSB, 7 week terms, same rate for in-state to out of state) would be LSU at Shreveport. Online MBA Program | LSU Shreveport Online

Also, if you need foundation classes you only have to take two. I believe there are none at UTC. LSUS price is cheaper (1,107.03 per class or 13,284 for 12 classes including foundations) and the program has good reviews even though is new. They also waive the GMAT if you have a masters or 3.4 undergrad GPA.

Of course you have cold feet, everyone does. Had them virtually every class throughout my online MBA program. Kept thinking: "This will be the one that stops me cold", but through accounting, finance, stats, strategy, etc., kept chugging along, until after four years of picking away part time, I graduated--miracle! MBA studies are not all that difficult, so it wasn't such a big deal, aside from the fact that God gives us the ability to reason and create at all, itself a miracle.

You'll get the hang of the platform, will become second nature, you'll get through the studies provided you're willing to hang on. Then after that, there are the online data analytics masters you could pursue then get cold feet over.
