    International Technological University Reputation

Was wondering what folks thought about ITU, especially since its been WASC accredited for a little while.

Degree Programs - ITU - International Technological University

I live relatively close by, so going to campus here and there wouldn't be necessarily challenging, but the school's history is less than perfect. Before ITU was accredited, my understanding is that it had a pretty strong track record of being a visa mill for students from Asia and Eastern Europe.

The programs, especially their doctoral programs seem a little "too" easy to get into, especially since they do not require letters of recommendation for admittance (maybe I'm a stickler since I work in higher ed).

Anyways, back to my original question. What do you all think of this university, given it's RA, not terribly expensive (but by no means, cheap), and it's overall history ?

I'm probably most interested in their DBA program, since I also do consulting for a private business in the bay area, so any residency wouldn't be a huge issue for me.

Hmm. I hadn't really heard much about them lately. I'm surprised to hear that they're accredited now. I remember them from when they were an unaccredited school.

If this place has a questionable reputation why are you even considering them? Especially since everyone in your area will know of their reputation as well. There are too many alternatives.

I have a general rule against shady schools. But I also hate schools that have fake sounding names. Granted, "University of Management and Technology" doesn't exactly pass that test.

If the reputation is bad then stay away. If you get a weird vibe off of admissions then stay away.

I've never heard of the school. But, it's RA and doesn't seem to be the subject of any publicly announced indictments. So, I could see how I might consider a place like this. But if the local reputation isn't good then really give it a good think before you give them a go.

Don't you believe in giving people a second chance?

I have to believe if they are WASC accredited, that they have a certain level of decency to their academics. The institution I work at, and graduated from, holds the same level of accreditation.

But overall, I hear you, I by no means have this as a top choice. .

I think it's major issue is that it definitely had an issue of being somewhat of a visa mill before. Definitely getting the vibe to stay away from them...

I thought perhaps at least they would be competitive on price, but tuition for their DBA is $60,000. Why would anyone choose this school's DBA when superior alternatives are available at the same price or less?

$1,000.00 per credit for Doctorate for both Ph.D and DBA? That price tag is too expensive.... California Southern University is much cheaper for DBA. I think even Golden Gate University's DBA is still cheaper than that.

Yikes, didn't see that. The tuition for their master's programs was $500 per credit, so I assumed their DBA wouldn't be too far off from that.

The alternatives in the bay area are significantly better for that price. I will definitely stay way.

I guess this is in the eye of the beholder, but I like the name.

Diploma mills almost always try to sound as substantial as possible. Many real, nontraditional schools adopt similarly nontraditional names. Some, however, change to more-traditional names later on, like Capella did. I wish Union would fix theirs.

They are obscure, so reputation would be non-existent one way or another, except maybe in the local area.

On the other hand, simple Google search still reveals media reports linking it to questionable practices. This is generally something to avoid in a school. What they actually did is more exploiting a loophole rather than outright fraud ("CPT from the first semester"), and they were not shut down or raided by ICE like three other schools, but they featured in investigative articles right alongside the notorious Tri Valley U. and Herguan. A couple of accredited universities were also mentioned in a similar context, IIRC (eg., Sullivan U. in Kentucky and Lincoln U. in California).

Personally, I'm not that concerned about little creativity in using immigration regulations (except that it's inherently risky, and applicants have scant due process protections), but that is something that would be stapled to alumni's resumes for potentially a long time.
