    Interesting list.

The nature of this list echos my feelings of "unless you get an MBA from a top school, go where it will cost the you the least" because as in the recent post from Kizmet "it doesn't matter" where you go.

    Let the disagreements begin.

Couldn't agree more, either go to a top grad program OR a low cost program....The in-between programs that can cost as much as a top program (and still req a sig amt of effort) are in a tough position....

Awww, come on. You are supposed to argue. This board is turning soft or something. Where are the cantankerous, obstinate, and pontificating regulars! LOL.

While I go kind of agree, "top school" is a vague comment. If you mean the top 10 are the only top schools, then I would have to disagree.

I see top schools to possibly include top state schools also. UF has a well respected MBA program.

Yes, top b-school is a very vague comment, but I would say a top program has to be at least a top 15 ranked school. By ranking, it's either Biz week or US News, with the other rankings being less regarded (FT, WSJ, Economist, etc...etc...)....There's even sub rankings among those who go to the top programs, such as the m7, big 3, etc..etc...Within the top schools, each has it's own pros/cons...

There's always a battle by the 'fringe' top programs to get into the top 10 from the top 15, and this changes over time, but there's a certain sticky group that is always in the top....

I would not put any state school in the top MBA bucket. You can certainly do well by going to a state school or a regional program, but they don't carry the cache, the student / prof quality, the alumni network, etc...etc... of a top MBA program.

US News disagrees with you regarding state schools and has several of them in the Top 15.

To me, and probably only me, the list should be like 6 maybe 7. Unless someone else is paying for your MBA (mostly, close to entirely, not a modest amount), it makes NO sense to quit a full-time job and self-fund an MBA at any other school.

Also something is really screwy with that list:

    #17
    University of Texas—Austin (McCombs)
    Austin, TX

    $65,016 per program (in-state, full-time); $48,832 per year (out-of-state, full-time)

Does that not seem backwards to you?

These U.S. News & World Report online MBA program rankings may also be of some interest:

There's a big diff btwn Darden / Haas / Anderson and your typical state b-schools. I argue the top 15 US News programs that are connected to public Unis are the exception, not the norm....

Let's throw a little relative deprivation into the mix and go from there. This is *my* personal favorite thing I learned in 2014 (Malcolm Gladwell's David and Goliath) and now there's a video of him telling it... I honestly feel like understanding this concept BEFORE sending my kids out into the big bad world SAVED them from being failures, because I can tell you with absolute certainty, I'd have shoved them out of the nest and into the best school possible. That said, high GMAT score + B list school = success (at least for the top 2/3) :)
