I am currentlyaattending Sam Houston State university. I am considering transferring to the University of Houston because it is cheaper. Which school is considered the better option for me being a business major? Would it be worth spending the extra $150 per credit hour, fees etc?

As long as transferring doesn't set you back, I think it would be a great move to transfer to a school that is cheaper and more highly-regarded. Are you looking to go to University of Houston or another school in the UH system? The flagship of the system is competing for tier one status in Texas. Out of the schools that are currently competing, UH probably has one of the better chances of attaining tier one status. If you're looking to attend UHV, UHD, or UHCL, then all you'll be doing is saving money assuming that you aren't going to be losing many credits. You won't be attending a school with higher prestige.

The good thing about Texas is that your core courses are guaranteed to transfer from one public institution to another. Some business courses are required to be accepted in transfer.

UH-Bauer has the superior brand name in comparison to the SHSU-COB; but is not automatically a better business school. Conversely, if you’re considering transferring to a UH system campus, as previously suggested, … I’d continue with SHSU for the BBA.

So you think UH is more regarded in Texas? I am looking to either go to UH. Do SHSU have tier one status?

Yes, I'm looking to possibly transfer to UH, the flagship school. So you think that since I'm considering transferring to the flagship campus, it would be more beneficial for me to transfer there from shsu? If so, seem's like a win win situation for me:), save money AND earn more prestige possibly. I've been researching and I'm not sure if the shsu-cob is better or comparable to uh-bauer...

I just found out that UH flagship does not offer my bba online:-( I am an online student currently so that is really disappointing. I would have to go in to campus at that location but the UD-downtown location does offer it but you both said that its not worth going to one of there system locations and better for me to stay at Sam Houston.

SHSU is the third oldest public higher learning institution in Texas (founded 1879)—older than UH (1927). Even so, UH (flagship-Houston) student enrollment is substantially (40K plus) larger than the SHSU campus (18K plus) in Huntsville. UH would be considered by most as a Tier 1 university in Texas, whereas not so for SHSU.

In comparing the two B-schools: UH-Bauer will categorically be ranked higher by authentic rating sources. This doesn’t mean that the College of Business at SHSU is second-rate at all—it’s not. And although both B-schools are AACSB accredited; nevertheless, UH-Bauer will have a larger alumnus base with regard to network and networking prospects than Sam’s COB—this too relates in contrasting the two universities overall enrollment /graduate sizes … beyond just their B-schools.

In that the Bauer College of Business does not offer its BBA online … my advice, drive on to complete your undergraduate degree with SHSU—and conversely, consider that the SHSU BBA would have a better Brand value than, i.e., an alternate route UH-Downtown BBA … in my view.

Thank you. I plan on continuing to get my MBA and looking at UTDallas, etc. If UH has mba, will consider.
