Greetings to the members of this forum. I am relatively new to the forum however i was more active in similar forums.

I've been trying to know whether CMA - Certified Management Accounting certification by IMA (IMANET.ORG) can contributed to any undergraduate credit with Excelsior or similar undergrad college?

While this qualification is usually taken after having a degree but it's possible to take and pass the exams before obtaining a Bachelor degree but the designation can only be awarded once a degree copy is submitted to IMA. What you will have in between are the transcripts or grades that could be possibly sent to the college to show you've completed the examination (one or both parts)

Therefore, it would be great to know if someone had completed CMA and applied for an undergraduate degree & obtained some credits? Anyone who have an idea is welcome to comment

    thanks

I obtained the CMA when it was a 4-part exams. I tried to used the credits for graduate courses with no luck. However the cma can be used to earned other jurisdictions designations with greater ease.

    Thanks Phdtobe for your post

After extensive research, It seems that CMA or CIA certifications won't have credit value towards a US Degree
Interestingly, it seems that they do have credit value towards UK qualifications.

    Hi Phdtobe

UK Universities will accept professional qualifications. They vary from University to another. Some would award exemptions, others wouldn't it varies.

For example Edinburgh Business School (University of Heriot Watt) has an exemption policy. If you have CIA- then you can apply for exemption. Similarly if you have CFA designation from the USA; CIMA or ACCA qualifications from the UK, you can apply for exemptions for a minimum of 2 subjects (Accounting, Finance and/or Economics)

There are many other Universities which would consider the above qualifications as well towards advanced placement- it could be Northampton, University College Plymouth, Derby and many more. As discussed this needs some research and depends on your plans.

At a professional level, ACCA (UK) would award CMA holders an exemption of 7 subjects- which is around 50% of the ACCA requirement. If you carry on with ACCA or CIMA- i do think there are some Universities that will accept you to a top-up program in Accounting or Finance.
    Hope i've helped

Forgive me for taking the topic to somewhat different direction here, but I have a question about the CMA that I've been wondering for a while.

As I understand it, in order to be eligible for a CMA, it is required to have already amassed a certain amount of experience in management accounting. My question is, how does one go about getting experience in management accounting without already first having the certification?

I am not really sure whether Management accounting experience is required for joining CMA. In fact IMANET have many types of memberships

When i got in touch to course providers there wasn't a specific emphasis on Accounting experience. But what i am sure about is the degree requirement to receive the designation.

You don't really need the certification to get the experience. You can get an entry-level accounting job with a company with a BS in accounting a work your way up the ladder.
