I am a JD and would like to pursue and MBA. Have been reading lots of posts on here that have been very helpful. Ultimately, have decided between Northeastern and UMass...and here is why:

I need some name recognition, as well as AACSB. UMass is most attractive because of price, but the problem is, in order to qualify for loans, I must take two classes at a time (14 week semesters).

Whereas, at Northeastern, each class is done one at a time, in six weeks. Presumably, it is the same amount of work. I am just travelling a lot and am am worried about carrying multiple classes and juggling due dates in between my meetings.

I would like to hear from people that have actually completed degrees online with these universities to find out what the actual coursework was like.

    Thanks!

I haven't completed either degree, but make sure you also consider the differences between the various UMass campuses. Each program (I'm pretty sure) is operated and ranked differently. That being said, based on my research with Northeastern, it appears to be more structured and organized than the UMass programs I've looked into - 1 class per term/structure may be better if you're on the go. I believe either pedigree would be comparable though. Anyone else?

Yes, big difference between UMass Amherst and UMass Dartmouth as far as ranking goes...but both are AACSB accredited, and the name still carries some weight. Both programs at UMass are comparable with respect to tuition, so Amherst-Isenberg would definitely be preferred (unless I find out the courseload at Dartmouth is easier to handle). Definitely open to both of those.

Do you know of other 1 class per term schools, that are in the same category, as far as name recognition?

Haha funny you should ask - check out Temple University in Philadelphia. Its actually one of my current top two choices, and they too run on a one class per term schedule. Each term lasts four weeks, and the degree is completed in about 19 months. I believe Fox (Temple's business school) is ranked in the top 50 b-schools by US News.

Just applied! Not sure they will let me waive in with no GMAT like the others, but let's see what they say. With 4 week course I would be worried about too much weekly work. Have you spoken with anyone about style of assignments? Mostly papers? Groupwork? Discussions? Exams? Any insight as to how it is structured?

I actually was just admitted, and had my interview last week. Based on my interview it sounded like a mix of assignments including group projects. I do know they have a synchronous video conference every week via webex - its on Thursdays and runs about two hours, I think. If you can't make it, you simply submit an extra assignment. Overall it looks like a great, well structured program. They have a week long opening residency where they issue you the technology you'll need, and train you on software use. I haven't decided on enrollment yet though, and am choosing between Temple and George Mason.
