This school has several MBA programs with only 8 courses. However it is almost $30,000 for an MBA. Does anyone have any experience or comments about this school? They say you can get an mba in as little as 11 months.

My memory is a good number of years ago (say 8 ish) they had some problems. I have not heard anything about them in recent years, however $30k is a lot it seems to me..

Ed is right. In 2007, AIU was taken off the "double-secret probation" it had been placed on by its accreditor, SACS. No problems of that type, since. Our search-engine reveals what (to me) is a significant number of threads dealing with service/administrative problems at AIU.

I just balk at the idea of paying this particular school $30,000 or anywhere NEAR that. RA MBA's can be had for as little as $10,000. Amberton, Wayne State and Chadron State come to mind as reasonably-priced schools. If you insist on AACSB program accreditation, it can be had for a lot less than $30K. If fast completion is your sole aim, then (RA) Western Governors charges by the semester. Work fast - save a lot. It's at least theoretically possible to complete the WGU degree in a year. As Nietzsche said, "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." A one-year degree -- could go either way.

Nothing glaringly wrong with AIU, but as I see it, there are just so many better answers for less money out there.

Yep and if DETC accreditation is okay there is my new favorite program the ILM MBA at 10% of the AIU tuition.

    Very expensive and problematic

Yes this school has had some big problems. I know about issues with accrediting agencies, and the terrible student reviews/threads, and the enormous price tag. I am not paying over 15k for my master's degree. Have narrowed it down to:

    Amberton University
Waldorf College (they are developing a master's program)
    American Public University
    Liberty or Western Governor's University.

Non of these schools should cause me to go bankrupt I guess. I think they are good choices. I must admit, taking 8 classes for a master's degree is mighty appealing-WOW!!!

My MS-ITM was 9 classes - 4 credits each and that was nice.

I agree - 8 courses sure does sound nice. I just started an MPH program with National University, and while the main courses are only 4 weeks in length, there are 14 of them, plus two additional courses consisting of a two-month internship and two-month capstone. That said, I'll be done in 18 months (if it doesn't kill me first!).

As for reasonably-priced, online AACSB MBA programs, check out this list from geteducated.com. Someone posted this link on here the other day.

Yes - it's a marvel, all right. If I were looking for a DETC MBA I'd be right there. However, Ann indicated in a previous post (somewhere - different thread) she's had some experience with a DETC school already and preferred RA study for her Master's.

Too bad, also, that serious programmatic accreditation (ACBSP, AACSB etc.) doesn't apply to NA schools. Not that I object to programs that don't have it. There are very good ones from NA schools - but they're not for everybody. We all have our preferences - as do employers and schools for further study.

Dude, its not like DETC is some school brand and they are all the same franchise like McDonald or Starbucks...

Did I say it WAS? Ann made that decision, for herself, based on her own individual school experience -- it wasn't me! Chill!

...Furthermore, you're right that DETC schools aren't "one size fits all" and I never suggested they were -- but they do, overall, fit some individuals well, and others hardly at all, depending on their needs. Some factors, e.g. no major programmatic accreditation, extend to ALL NA business schools. Other factors vary from school to school.

You pays yer money, you takes yer choice.

Chilled. Such outrage and icons! Just addressing what you wrote and how you wrote it.

Eating a sandwich doesn't mean I can pass judgment on ALL sandwiches in the universe.

However it is true that I can distinguish between a sandwich and a panini. Oh wait I don't know the difference. Man, now I'm hungry..

Not quite. More like Ted and I keep each other on their toes -- it's all we can do. I just tread on other people's toes from time to time.

Only difference - someday, (no set date) I'm going to quit doing this. Somehow, I don't think Ted has that in his plans.

And yes, Ed - I DO have a good memory, for much other stuff besides DI, too. It helped when I went back to school, through my 40s 50s and into my 60s. My memory is almost scary, some say! And I'm now 71, retired for over 20 years and I have all kinds of time. I think I've sorta earned it.

You think I have no plans to quit? Hmm. In August 2013, I found a new girlfriend and now my internet time has become more facebook and less degreeinfo. In October 2013, I found a new job, which has meant even less time for dfegreeinfo. And so it goes. I'm thinking that I might go back to WNMU's MAIS program come Summer 2014. And that might mean even less time for degreeinfo.

That's great, Ted! Good on you for all of the positive things going on in your life. Don't quit on us entirely though. This place just wouldn't be the same without you.
