Hey. I'm a BA in Economics from Uruguay looking for a Master's in Economics through DL. I've only found a few, namely North Dakota, Georgia Southern and Purdue. I'm mostly interested in the latter.

Has anyone here tried it? I got most of the relevant information from their webpage, but I'd like to hear some personal opinions regarding the program.

I really don't know much about DL in general, so I'd also appreciate any opinions regarding DL specifically for Economics. What worries me the most is not being able to establish links with professors (as one would in a regular, on-site program), which are quite useful when publishing papers and the like. Any thoughts?

I'm unable comment on Purdue's Economics programs, but I know Purdue is a top class university and several of my friends or colleagues have engineering degrees from there.

Here is another one that might interest you: Master of Science in Applied Economics | AAP | JHU

As for not being able to establish links with professors, I wouldn't worry so much about that. If you establish early on with professor that is doing work in an area that you that you are interested in that you want to publish, you should be able to collaborate easily through Skype and internet telephone.

I agree, and would add that you will likely find professors at a very good school like Purdue to have already anticipated the issues you're concerned with and have established ways to accommodate their distance students. But why not contact them and ask about it? Also, taking online courses will keep you from having the soul-crushing experience of setting foot in West Lafayette, or witnessing the Purdue basketball team getting whipped by the far superior Indiana University. So you'll have that going for you, which is nice.

I agree on all three point -- it probably won't be hard to establish a rapport with your instructors if you put some effort into it, they've probably thought about this already, and there's no reason you shouldn't ask people at the school directly.

I was under the impression that the Johns Hopkins Masters was not completely online and required being there for a couple classes or something of the sort. That's a no go for me, unfortunately.

Good to see no one is particularly worried about establishing connections with rpofessors.

I was really hoping to find some kind of review of the program, but so far nothing.

    Thanks for the replies, anyway.
