I'm trying to help my dad find the best place to finish his degree. He took 2-3 semesters at a community college about 30 years ago. I'm gonna look at his transcripts tonight to see exactly what he took.

He's been in sales now for almost 3 decades, owning his own business for over 15 years. He's now a sales manager, but needs a bachelor's to work his way up out of this job that still has a heavy physical requirement and not stellar pay.

He's very naturally intelligent, but hasn't been able to ever get a good education even growing up. His budget probably also wouldn't allow more than maybe $200-300 a month, and not a humongous time commitment, as he works over 50 hours a week.

I'm new to the idea of online schools, but I've tried to do my research for a few days. I've looked at the schools like Ashworth, Penn Foster, CalCoast, etc., but I basically see a bunch of people calling them a worthless degree mill, and a bunch of other people saying they're great.

So, all that to say, a good goal would probably be for him to see what he can transfer in and go for an Associate's degree in business to see how he does and how he likes the school. I would love some advice from you guys about where we should contact and try for the Associate's, and maybe then on to a Bachelor's.

    Thanks!

These are in no way degree mills. Most Detc schools offer payment plans which makes them a great choice for getting a better education.

If he can find something at Clovis that sparks his interest then that's a great place to start. Other than the folks at AJU, I've never met people more willing to help someone meet their goals.

Overall, your requirements are quite modest. If I were you the first place I'd look would be your own state university system. The quality will will at least mid-grade as will be the costs, the name will be recognized and respectable and the accreditation will be beyond reproach.

I am sure he is a smart guy with a lot of experience; has he explored taking CLEP exams? You could get half way to an AA/AS degree in a few weeks. Just a thought. I completed a BS and MBA from CalCoast and I liked the school.

Thanks for the info, guys! I have some updates. He checked with HR at his business and they actually reimburse tuition up to $5300 a year, which is more than enough because he won't be able to take but 1-2 classes a semester.

So, again, trying to look through online universities has been mind boggling. This is what he's looking for specifically:

He wants something geared towards marketing and sales coaching. I was thinking business leadership would be great, but I have found very little on any associate's in leadership. Maybe if somewhere had an AA in Marketing with a couple elective options he could supplement with.

Leadership would be ideal, but is there one? If not, do you have any recommendations for an AA in marketing?

    Randell,

Ditto on CAL Coast. I completed an MBA with them and learned a great deal. Most people that debunk CAL Coast do so because they do not understand that it is androgogic (self directed) rather than pedagogic in nature (professor to student) MOVING FROM PEDAGOGY TO ANDRAGOGY . When I studied there, you could rent the textbooks, and exams were faxed back to CCU for grading.
