new to the group and would appreciate some help on this - looking for reputable online PhD in Business/Finance program- I have found all brick and mortar's PhDs are full time resident. Is anyone aware of brick and mortar universities in US or non-US which offer online? also, from online universities, between Walden and Capella which would you recommend? any other online worth considering. much appreciated!

What does "reputable" mean to you?

Walden or Capella? Really? What possible distinctions could be made that would make one over the other a clear-cut choice?

If you have the chops, consider doing a thesis-only PhD from a foreign school.

It depends. What is your real goal here? What do you want to do that you cannot do now but believe you could with a PhD in Finance? Answer that for the best advice.

There are a number of programs that fit your description. I would invite you to read though this thread

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/business-mba-degrees/27212-lowest-cost-phd-dba.html

and you will find many of the available programs mentioned. If none of these suit your needs then please come back with further questions. In that situation please be prepared to answer questions about why the listed programs are unsuitable. Good luck.

Most British PhDs can be considered "online" or distance nowadays as they are by research only, all you have to do is negotiate with your supervisor Skype meetings. You will be still required to go at least once to the UK to defend the doctorate. I have been admitted to few PhDs in the UK but declined mainly because the cost factor.

However, a cheap option exists in the UK for a PhD and this is a PhD by published work. This means that you first publish 3 papers in finance in peer review journals and then submit an application to consider them for a PhD to some of the British schools. This way, you will be paying only one term at the British school only (one semester) instead of 10 semesters (typical part time PhD). It might sound too good to be true but the catch is that the publications have to be of good quality and convince the University that are worth a PhD.

Few schools do this included University of Sunderland. None of the schools that offer PhD by publication are top in the UK but they are above Capella and Walden that are not ranked in most the published rankings.

Capella and Walden get a lot of attention because they do a good job in marketing, however, better options exist at a lower price if you shop around. There also quite a few cheap schools in Europe that can take PhDs by publication or research only. Just do a search in this forum for this.
