Hi folks, I have read through most of the threads on here and have got some very good information so I figured I'd post my specific situation and see if anyone could give me some personal advise. I am a 33 year old high school principal looking to do an online mba. My goal is to move to a superintendant position someday. I have an undergraduate degree in physics and math, a masters in education and scored a 650 on the GMAT.

I am looking for an online MBA for a decent price (under 30K for sure) without a ton of prerequisite course requirements. I did not do any business courses during my undergrad.

I have narrowed it down to a few choices: University of Memphis, UMASS Lowell and University of South Dakota. I am also still considering a few UK schools, Durham and Aston

I am hoping to get a few people to weigh in their thoughts on the above options and/or pipe up about a program I might be overlooking.

I appreciate any info. This site helped me wade through the many programs out there, it really is a great help!

I wasn't delighted with the doctoral level stats course I took through the University of Memphis. Granted, that was in the education school, but still, I found it was awfully unimpressive. If I were looking at MBA programs, I'd look most closely at the University of South Dakota.

    Good luck,

What criteria did you use to narrow down your choices? I can't tell whether you are primarily interested in an affordable program, prestige of the school, or something else.

UMASS has a good brand name. Durham and Aston are also good choices.

Take a look at UMass-Amherst, Univ of Nebraska, Auburn, Alabama, Miss State. They all should be below your price point. I think you're probably going to need to take an intro Accounting, Econ and possibly stats class. I think that's pretty common for most MBA programs.

I'd like prestige for sure but with my price point understand I'm not in the ballpark for anything too prestigious. Criteria I used was price and no prerequisite or levelling courses. Thanks!

You seem to think that how well regarded a school is and what its tuition rate is are necessarily closely connected. But that's not the case.

Cool, then look at AUTiger00's list. Also, roughly where do you live? It's true that online means you can go to schools that are anywhere, but one of the points to doing an MBA is to tap into an alumni network that can help you, which usually means that when a number of schools are roughly equivalent in other ways, choosing the closest one is more likely to help you get ahead.

Thanks for all of the input. I actually live in Nova Scotia, Canada. After sorting through everything I think I have narrowed it down to two choices, university of memphis and university of Nebraska. Both offer exactly what I need. There is a small price difference, memphis is about 20k and Nebraska is about 25k. Anyone care to comment on either of these? Is Nebraska worth the extra money in terms of quality of program or brand recognition? Thanks again!

I apologize in advance if this post shows up twice, I think I had some technical issues submitting the first one. Thanks for all of your comments. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I have narrowed my choices down to two, university of memphis and university of Nebraska. Both seem to offer what I need. Memphis is 20k and Nebraska is 25k. Anyone have input or a comparison for these two programs? How do they match up in terms of quality of program and brand recognition? Any input would be much appreciated!
