Could you tell me the value of a PHD degree from a foreign country. I do not teach in the US. I make way more money teaching overseas, but I am seeing how a doctoral degree could help with the job searches.

I am looking at a PHD degree from the Philippines or India. Also, I am hoping to find one that can be completed in under a year.

The value depends on the program, the university, the country, and your goals. But I would say that no legitimate doctorate can be completed in a year, unless it's one that relies on previous publication.

I have no numbers to back myself up here but I'm guessing that if you counted all the PhDs worldwide you'd learn that most are from non-US universities. So clearly there is value. As to whether there is value in your profession you'd be better off asking your employer. Also, I agree with Steve when he says that no legitimate PhD can be completed in less than a year. Most can't even do it in two years.

    Piling on here. Agreed.

As for doing a doctorate by publication, you won't be able to do it in less than a year, either. And that would be if one already had the publications. It is not a simple thing, even at that.
