Does anyone around here have some experience with Manchester and doing their PhD via distance?

Their structure looks not very distance learning friendly. They put a lot of emphasis on attending all the research seminars during the first year and even put on their website, that they only admit people for the part-time option who live within driving distance of the school.

I suspect they are trying the via-distance people in their (more profitable) DBA. Would love to hear the opinion of anyone familiar with the MBS situation.

My guess is that you've nailed it on the first shot.

Most of UK institutions require Doctorate students must visit every semester. That is lot of money for students outside of the European Union.
