Here are some: Is the instruction in English? Some dissertations subjects need to be done in German, but it isn't explicit about English. I suspect that it's okay. On-campus residency appears to be part of the program. It doesn't say how much or how frequently, but this is going to add a lot to the cost, especially for students in North America. The degree will be from a school no one's ever heard of. It doesn't appear to be in the world rankings, either. But.... It sounds like an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of something new--a situation where the right student could not only do the degree, but he or she could help shape the program. That would be fun.
Hi Rich Douglas, I can't find the reference to German in the link Tekman provided? As they require proof of English skills and all documents in English translation + publications in English speaking journals, I think the program is clearly aimed at the international market? The question is still how much would a degree from a Hungarian university in the USA?

Its degrees would be recognized here in the U.S. However, using a doctorate normally isn't about simple recognition; it's about being acceptable yourself. Desirable, actually. And you'd have to face scrutiny regarding having done a doctorate in that manner at that particular school. About costs: Although firm estimates are hard to come by without discussion with the school, I suspect travel would triple the cost. And given the exchange rate, that could run you into $50-60K range easily.
It dawned on me for the first time that a doctorate has to fit the holder like a custom tailored suit? Would that be a good analogy?
First of all, sorry for my fragmented writing, should stop posting during work... I would understand that some of the tutors are German, so if you want to write about a certain topic with a certain professor you should be able to do it in German, but it does not sound like a general requirement, or? I never doubted the legitimacy of the university, but you have myriads of schools in the US that offer Phds, so it might be title that, although legitimate, still needs explanation...
I think that is a great analogy! Hopefully the better it fits, the fewer silly questions you have to answer. A little more "Wow! Where did you get that?" and a little less "Why there?"
