So I guess this is what I get for procrastinating. I've had the Kaplan RE Broker licensing course for over a year and I have not found the time to complete it yet. Now it appears the state is doing away with the licensing requirement that allows me to get my brokers license without first working as a real estate agent for two years prior because I have a bachelors degree.

    What a bummer . . . :blackeye:

The bill was introduced in February 2012, and was approved by the Governor in August 2012. However, it does not become effective until January 1, 2013.I've heard that you can still qualify for the broker exam under the old rules, as long as your application is postmarked by December 31, 2012. If you applied during 2012 (while the old rules are still in effect), then apparently you will be allowed to take the exam in 2013 (after the new rules come into effect) -- even if you no longer qualify under the new rules.

I am not personally familiar with these rules, but the FAQs at the Dept. of Real Estate seem consistent with my understanding:

My understanding is that if you get your application in to DRE by Dec. 31, 2012 your golden. However, all your coursework has to be completed by the time you fire off the application. I can't burn through seven courses in 3 weeks.

Unfortunately, it looks like you are correct. Apparently it is still possible to submit an application under the 2012 rules -- but the application won't be accepted unless all coursework is completed on or before December 31, 2012.

I've been reading through the various items listed on their website to use as a reference and some of the information is not entirely clear. I may have found a few loopholes so to speak, but I'm not entirely sure. Its going to take some more looking into . . .

So it appears that those loop holes did not play out like intended. I'm taking two courses online; Real Estate Appraisal and Real Estate Finance. It looks like it's back to the old drawing board . . . .
