First, I would like to say hello to you all as I'm, a long time reader and first time poster. Following the wonderful examples and advice of several of you, (most notably Theo) I've finished my Bachelors Degree at TESC, which afforded me the utilization of many employment and education credits. Currently I'm looking into furthering my education with a Masters Degree, but can’t seem to find a field that interests me the most. Currently, I have an Associate degree in Business from my local CC and a BS in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from TESC. I originally sought something in environmental, but the career options seem to prefer someone with a science background. MPH didn’t really move me either. MBA's seem to available and plentiful to me, but the management or finance options do interest me.(I also looked into the Masters at Harvard Ext, but I think I’m better than a junior college in Guam lol) So, is their real valve in a masters in management? If so what online school do you recommend?
One of the other threads, “$2 Million for your kids to Harvard College Admission, comment by Rebel100”, it was a joke I’m sure. Rest assure I'm still very interested in Harvard Ext, just trying to see what other options or available. The travel part may be a bit much for me.
Someone made a joke about HES in another thread. However, since methinksi'mgreat is new to the forum, he didn't realize that the poster was being sarcastic, and that HES is famous (or should we say notorious) on this board for its extremely challenging and time consuming classes.
I think the real story here is that apostrophes are legal characters for DegreeInfo usernames. Now I know.
The University of Alabama has a MA in Management (Global Business Management). More information can be found here.
The op should stop talking like a fool unless he's prepared to have people think he's a fool. Besides, who says "methinks?" Sorry newbie, you caught me on the wrong day.:chairshot:
A cousin of mine started an MBA while he was still in the corporate world and switched to an MPA program when he went into the public sector. Before completing his MPA, his career path took him to education consulting and since he still wanted some use for his MBA and MPA knowledge and units, but didn't want to go back to either program, he settled for the more "flexible and generic" (i.e., not exclusively private/corporate or public/government) master's in management, which he completed online. He says the degree provided him a strong foundation in leadership and organizational behavior (even statistics and research) that he was admitted to all the doctoral programs he applied to -- one in global leadership (hybrid), one in business administration (B&M), and one in educational leadership (B&M).
My MS in Management (AACSB accredited) from TAMUC paid off really well. I was able to secure admission into one of the part-time AACSB Doctoral programs.
Your choice of a masters degree to a large extent depends on your career goals. Do you have an existing career? If yes then pursue a degree that complements your career; if no then I suggest you defer obtaining a masters until you have a few years work experience.
Thanks for all the help. I've decided to look into this UAB program:UAB - UAB School of Engineering - ASEM which may be more in line with my career. Although it’s not ABET, the components speak directly to what I do. Maybe when I'm done I can seek an MBA or MS in Management to fill any gaps or for self study. You guys have been great. Thanks.
A master’s degree in Management, and not a MBA, is an intriguing concept, especially when someone actually takes the time to distinguish to two (whereas most consider them one the same). Here are a couple of links to a program created by Henry Mintzberg at McGill University.
