    Dear all,

Last year I started out with the best of intentions with an MBA program at Aspen university due to a great price offer.

    That was in june 2011.

Now a year later i have not passed any course.

    This was due to:

    Personal issues
    Change of work and country
    No proper planning
    Underestimating the workload

Another factor that they do not seem to get enough students for what is called the online 8 week fixed courses. These are basically the ones that would help me the most due to my lack of planning power.

Instead I was enrolled in online flex classes, which are self guided courses you can finish in ten weeks. Not really working for me.

This has put me on academic probation.:scared:

Also I need to pay an additional fee for the courses that I have to retake which is about 4000 USD, alsmost the same that I paid for the entire course.

So what should i do now:

1 Stay in the program and finish despite the fact that most of my classes will be self
    study instead of guided ones.

2 Leave the course and find a new masters program, although I think the cost would
be much higher then the total amount I have to spend with aspen.

3 Stop with online programs and enroll in a B & M uni?

    Advice?

Just to be clear, aspen is not to blame for my failure to pass a class.

Whatever your decision, I'll respect it -- and you, of course. You've come here and told it exactly like it is. I respect that -- a lot. I have no MBA but I did survive 30 years in the business world - and although it's not really important, I did get straight A's in half-a-dozen business courses at University in my 50s - after I retired. So here's my two cents:

    (1) Making decisions and organization are both vital skills - in school or business. Your decision here - "double down" or "leave the table." I'd walk -- while I still had the $4000. My decision is not based on the school's being Aspen. I'd think the same if it were any other school. Here's why:

    (2) I suggest perhaps you try not return to school anywhere until you have as good a handle as possible on any problems like the ones that distracted you and caused you organizational upheaval.

    (3) Do a little soul-searching in the interim. Do you really like this kind of study? Will you actually enjoy the demands of decision-making and organization etc., when you're finished. You're a smart person -- you can figure it out.

    (4) This is also just a suggestion - it's all for you to decide. Perhaps you are the sort of student who prefers a structured environment, firm deadlines etc. I get the sense that perhaps B&M (evenings?) might be your preference when you return to school --be it for business or a Master's in any other field.

As I said - you're a smart person and you'll figure it out. It is certainly much to your credit that you absolve Aspen of any blame for the outcome here. I think we can write it off to wrong place, wrong time etc.

I wish you every success. I think it's important that you take some time deciding on the next phase of your academic progress.

My take is to withdraw - get your life in order, then enroll at another institution:

    Good luck!

I do agree. Online classes do not work for everyone. My wife took 2 - one I had to nag her to death to do anything and she finally got a C. The second, well, she never even opened the book!

I suggest you drop and find something you really want. Maybe a different program, degree, certificate, concentration, or just be happy with a BS and do nothing else.
