    Hi there:

My employer has offered to pay for me to enroll in a Master's degree. However, I have been unsuccessful at finding a degree that matches my criteria. All I can find online are DeVry, Walden, etc degrees ... which is becoming very annoying.

I already have a B.Comm and a MSc in Management. I would like to enroll in a Business/Management related degree, but doing another "MSc in Management" would be almost pointless. On the other hand, doing a "specialized" MSc degree like MSc in Strategic Management or MSc in Strategy and Fiance may be a viable option.

I am looking for a degree that is 100% online. I found some excellent MSc degrees; but many of them require you to attend on-campus sessions (some are only few days a year, others more) but due to my consistent and random travel requirements for work, I am not able to attend any on-campus sessions.

In addition, since my last two degrees are from N. America, I have been thinking that a degree from Europe or Asia might be a good idea. However, I am open to all suggestions.

Here is an example of the only degree I was able to find thus far that matches my needs: Strategic Management MSc | University of Derby Online Learning
This is a "specialized" degree, and it comes from a somewhat reputable institution. I am not looking for an Ivy league program, but any school that has been around for a while is good ... I am just sick of DeVry and Walden ads.

I would sincerely appreciate if anyone can post a link of a degree that they think might be worth while taking a look at.

    Regards,
    Dan K.

I guess that the first thing is that you're using a lot of British nomenclature and this is primarily a US board. It's not a problem except that in this context we usually talk about MBA degrees, not MSc degrees. In any case, the best single source of information (links) to MBA programs, with many, many specializations, is Jonnies DL pages. Beyond this, you should tell us if you're looking for a British program (look at Leicester) or a US program (look at UMass). Best of luck.

Take a look at the M.Sc. programs in Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Strategic Planning from Edinburgh Business School of Heriot-Watt University.

Remember to investigate whether courses from your M.Sc. would be good for some transfer credit towards a second master's. EBS might extend credit for one or two appropriately matched courses out of nine.

I believe transfer credit can only be applied towards a degree when it hasn't been counted towards the completion of another degree. That is to say, since the grad credits completed by the OP were counted towards his previous masters they can't now be applied to another.

At any rate, sounds like the OP does some work globally, thought this might interest him.

For someone who already has a Master's degree in Management, I'd think that something similar like Strategic Management or Global Management would be a waste of his time and his employer's money. Maybe something like Finance or Accounting or MIS would be different enough to be justifiable, or maybe it would be worth it if the original Master's is from a poorly regarded school and the new one could be through a well regarded school. Otherwise I don't see why one would bother.

I asked Amberton about that and they said you could transfer in credits from an program where a masters degree was earned - I was shocked.

And the MBA from Royal Holloway requires at least one one week long residency.

As a current student of the MBA I can give you "insider" information about the organization of the program and if you give me your e-mail and you ultimately decide to sign up for studies at the UoLiv we will both receive a discount on the tuition fee worth 5 Credit Points. :)

    @Pugbelly2: Thanks for your suggestions.

@Kizmet: Thanks for your suggestions as well and that Johnnies Dl link! I am open to both US and UK schools, but I figured that it might be nice to get a degree from a non-US school since I already have 2 degrees from N. America based schools. In addition, I work for a international giant firm; so maybe having education from different countries may be good down the road.

@Major56: Thanks! Some of those seem very interesting. I will have to go over them in detail.

@Jonathan Whatley: Thanks! I will def. have to look into that program in more detail. As far as transfer credits; if I can transfer them, that will be great. Thanks for reminding me. I will have to look into it and see if it is possible. But if not, I figured that it would be good to at least have them exempt me from some courses that might be the same and allow me to take more electives. For instance, many MSc programs require you to do some sort of a quantitative decision making course and/or a statistics course. Since I have already taking this in my previous MSc, I rather take another elective than learn all of this material all over again ... which I still remember fairly well. I'll see what they say tho.

@SteveFoerster: Thanks for your comments. I did think about this as well and have looked at a number of Finance degrees. I just wanted to have some different options before I make a final decision. One thing I was considering - and I am not sure if this is a bad way to think about it - but just because the degrees have a similar name does not mean that it is a bad decision. For instance, one MSc in Management may have a certain set of classes which are completely different from the set of classes offered at another MSc. In such case, I am learning "new" material. Any thoughts on that?
P.s. This was my previous degree; a fairly new program, but the school is a very reputable B-School as they are #2 producer of Business cases in the world - right after Harvard.

@Randell1234: Thanks a lot for looking into it. I imagine that this might vary from school to school.

@Sweetowski: Thanks! I will keep in touch with you.

Once again, thanks to all who responded! I definitely have more options than I did before! Appreciate it a lot!

A decent online master's? Like as in not an indecent master's? What makes a master's indecent?

Well, I was just wondering if a decent master's was a master's that's wearing clothes (as opposed to an indecent master's being a master's that's not wearing clothes).

You can always go for MBA from a reputed college (this is mandatory). If you are already working in any company and for growth, if you feel that you need to consider a course through distance learning, MBA is your options. However, you need to be selective in picking up the college because study materials and faculties of that distance learning institute are really very important.

Liberty and APU seem like great options for an MBA.
