Is a school 'better' if it requires GRE for admission?

I have come to find that most online schools dont require the GRE, when most brick and mortars do. If I am pursuing a Doctorate of Management, DBA, etc, do schools like Eastern and UMUC (who require GRE scores) hold a higher regard than online schools that dont, like Walden or Capella? If a DBA from Walden and Eastern are in the end going to be considered very similar, might as well go with the one that is easier to get into right? Just trying to see if I should take the time and money to go take a GRE prep and take the exam...

For a DBA, I would think that the appropriate entrance exam would be the GMAT. Yes, schools that require admissions exams are usually more highly regarded than those that do not.

Possibly, but not because of the GRE requirement. The GRE requirement would be more of a marker of prestige than a cause of it. Also, the GRE requirement doesn't necessarily always mean a more prestigious degree, although some administrators and faculty may introduce a requirement for this purpose.

For me, if one can complete a proper dissertation, then the GRE does not matter at all. Besides, the GRE is a measure of input rather than output. It attempts to test one's potential for graduate school, not the quality of graduates from programs that require the test.

I think other issues are more important (cost, convenience, program requirements, faculty, etc.). You will also find that for-profit universities and less prestigious non-profits often have lower or non-existent testing requirements to increase the applicant pool.

That being said, sometimes the GRE requirement is meaningless. A colleague of mine is pursuing an EdD at a state university, and the program had a testing requirement but no minimum score. When he asked what he needed to score, they told him just to take it. They wanted to be able to say that they required tests for admission. Go figure.

No, a college or university is not better if it requires a GRE for admission.
