CTCSG is an employee for B&S U. She has previously been asked to stop advertising this school as her sole activity on this board. She has refused to comply and so she no longer has posting privileges.

I would like to clarify this issue a bit because there is a sizable grey area involved. We know that many of our members are either students or instructors at specific (sometimes multiple schools). We have no problem with their posts that describe their schools, their programs and their experiences. However, almost universally these same members involve themselves in other discussions on this board and generally present themselves as being proponents of distance learning in general and display an interest in the general discussion of distance learning programs and experiences. If a person only posts about the school that employs them and if their posts read like advertising copy then they typically are asked to stop advertising and join in the larger discussion. Most people understand why we make this request and we happily accept their membership.. Some ignore this request and usually our relationship ends poorly (and quickly). Such is the case with CTCSG. I'm sure that B&S U has a decent set of programs and I'm sorry that CTCSG has refused to follow our guidelines. I do not want people to come to the conclusion that they can not talk about their schools. We actually appreciate the insights you bring in that regard and frankly wish that people would share more of their experiences. I hope, however, that there is a relatively clear distinction between a member who sometimes talks about their school and then sometimes talks about other DL issues and a person who only shows up to advertise their employer. Thanks for bearing with me during this micro-rant.

We sincerely apologize for any intrusions on your community forum and for overlooking any previous warnings. I ensure you, this intrusion will not happen again. It is our policy to engage in a white hat manner, meaning we are always transparent about posting on behalf of Bryant & Stratton College Online. CTCSG’s intention was to provide the community with information on new online specializations available through Bryant & Stratton College Online, not to upset the community balance. Thank you for outlining your guidelines, and once again, we sincerely apologize for any intrusion.

I, for one, have always appreciated Degreeinfo's environment that allows for answering questions about one's affiliated institution but that does not tolerate obvious shilling. As many here know, I am the Academic Dean of the e-Learning campus of a private sector university and have a vested interest in promoting my institution's programs. However, I also know that by engaging in shilling, I would not only damage my own reputation, but also that of my institution.

I have received great benefit from this forum through the interaction and exchange with some very intelligent and experienced people who are willing to share their thoughts and expertise and keep us informed of current trends and up-to-date news. My institutiuon has benefitted by the addition of some very talented online faculty and students who first learned from us through conversations on Degreeinfo (no shilling necessary).
