Tro*`i oi, ai no'i? European University of German is accredited by CHEA (Council for Higher Education Association)? In fact, CHEA does not issue accreditation to any institutions? Not to be confused with Central European University in Budapest, Hungary (accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education - US Regional Accreditation Agency).

Here is the status of European University's accreditation.

"Four campuses in Europe (Barcelona, Geneva, Montreux and Munich) were accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 2009.[9] The Swiss campuses were accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education in March 2010.[10] As of January 2011, the Spain, Switzerland and Germany campuses are also accredited by the Central and East European Management Development Association.[11] Programs from other locations are not accredited.[12]

Before the ACBSP accreditation process was completed, the institution's accreditation status drew negative attention from international news media and government officials. The Swiss Embassy in Singapore issued information in 2008 stating that the European University lacked educational accreditation in its home jurisdiction of Switzerland, where the Centre of Accreditation and Quality Assurance of the Swiss Universities has responsibility for accreditation.[13] From 1993 to 2007, the European University in Barcelona had authorization from Catalonian authorities to offer programs leading to Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees, but this authorization was withdrawn in 2007 due to the institution's lack of official recognition in Switzerland.[14] In August 2009, leading Malaysian newspaper The Star included European University in a list of dubious institutions which were not in recognised accreditation registries"

Well, I assume if your program's parent campus is located in Germany and without stating anything about European University of Hanoi. Then the program is accredited by the ACSP and the Central and East European Management Development Association.

Why don't you attend Troy University's MBA program through College of Economics , Vietnam National University, Hanoi ?

Troy University is accredited by Southern Accreditation Colleges and School (SACS); and the MBA is accredited by Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Jut to clarify, ACBSP and IACBE do not accredit campuses, they accredit specific programs. It's possible for a school to have some programs that are accredited by ACBSP and others that are not. This is the case, for example, with Swiss Management Center, where most programs have ACBSP accreditation but a few, like their PhD in Economics , do not.

Speaking of SMC, they're a good example that a university can be unaccredited in Switzerland, but still be legitimate and credible. The process for federal accreditation in Switzerland is unusually onerous, and not reachable by smaller institutions, even those that provide a quality education . I think that's why programmatic accreditors like ACBSP are willing to accredit programs at such universities, even though normally they require institutional accreditation as a prerequisite.

Still I am not clear if EU branch in Ha Noi is accredited? Is it licensed by Vietnam government as a university?
Is my MBA recognised as an accredited degree? Is it recognised by Vietnam government?
Any body can help me with this?

Well, in my opinion your program is not accredited or recognized by the Government of Vietnam. This opinion according to your statement..."I am enrolled with European university Branch in Hanoi/Vietnam for MBA . This is a program which designed to be completed in part in Hanoi and partly in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur).?" As Steve has said above, European University is not an accredited academic institution; however, only programmatic accredited. My understanding that the programmatic accreditation is not issued to Malaysia's campus.

I am not sure what is the higher education accreditation in Vietnam because I left when I was 10 years old. My recommendation to you is writing your request to the Registry of Education of Vietnam to get your answers. My second recommendation is leaving the program to another recognizable school. There are plenty of international accredited colleges and universities in Vietnam. So, there is no reason to attend the school that would jeopardize your credential because of its accreditation issues.

I decided to drop European university because Ha Noi & Malaysia programs are not accredited. Vietnam and Malaysia government do not recognize European university. This is waste of money to spend US $8000 for a not accredited MBA .

    Thank U for your help

They require either institutional accreditation or, if outside US, sufficient degree-granting authority in the school's own country. They have chosen (in SMC's case) to accept Cantonal permission as "sufficient degree-granting authority." Such degrees are "legal ," of course, but they lack the standing of a Swiss Federation-approved degree. In fact, last I looked, Germany rated these degrees as "deficient." I don't believe ACBSP has ever accredited (or would ever accredit) a "deficient" program - but nobody cares what I think.

Yes, it is practically impossible for a new school, especially DL, to meet the Swiss Federation's degree stipulations. Just one of the onerous requirements is having 100 full-time professors. That's why schools like SMC have no real option but Cantonal licensing/permission. And yes - they have to have really good programs for ACBSP, despite what Germany says.

    Hi Johann,

A very good observation. This is precisely the case in point. European University's Swiss Campus programs with a similar Cantonal licensing/permission are accredited by both ACBSP and the IACBE as well. Hence they must have reasonably good business programs for acceptance by these two recognized American accreditors.
