I suddenly realized that this is a subject that we rarely talk about here and I would like this site to have the information available to others, so I propose that we put together a big list. Current tuition information and credit hour requirements would also be very helpful, since "least expensive degree in ______" always tends to be a popular search subject.

    I'll throw one out there.

Eastern New Mexico University's MBA has an accounting concentration. The whole degree is a little over $7,000, plus some fees.
    Online Master of Business Administration.

One could combine that MBA with a few undergrad courses at LSU and meet the education qualifications for CPA in most states. The MBA with accounting specialty gets you 4 graduate accounting courses. So if you can pick up an extra 2 grad accounting courses, you should be able to teach accounting as an adjunct at the university level.

Another program to consider is Linfield's online accounting degree. In terms of costs, they are significantly lower than traditional, in-person based education. They also give you the flexibility to do your work at your convenience and around your schedule. Online education is certainly a viable option. If you are concerned about credit hour requirements, they are comparable across the nation. Becoming a Certified Public Accountant requires you to meet your CPA exam requirements, so you won't find much change in different programs.

Accounting degrees are excellent option for people looking for stable business careers. It is more focused than broad business degree programs like business administration or management in that it is solely concentrated on providing graduates the skills for accounting jobs. Many graduates also get the CPA license after graduating from an accounting program to enhance their employability. Also, having a CPA license is mandatory for certain accounting roles.
