Wow this pocket MBA video leaves me a little unimpressed

Aspen Univresity and the Pocket MBA

Maybe I am superficial but the production values here and the lack of professional appearance turn me off.

I do like the concept of an accelerated, mini-MBA though. I just think they could have dressed a little better and maybe laid off the beer for a while and hit the elliptical before making that video. Just sayin.

    Maybe, but:

A - you now know about it
B - we got over 1,500 hits (which you just added to, thanks!)
C - go research who Harry is and you will see that for his market this is the style of interview he does

For the critique of my beer gut, you go make a video with a flip cam on the spur of the moment, post it, and then I’ll take digs at your appearance. Just sayin.

Nice comeback. I guess in 2011 I am more used to professional models and actors talking up the business and then seeing a disclaimer mentioning the fact that it was "doctor dramatization" :)

And I don't look so bad but I do tend to do some mouth breathing which doesn't look very professional on cam ;)

LOL....you look fine David. I suppose they could have hired a model to be your stunt double. You did an amazing amount with Aspen (very energetic).

I made the decision about three years ago that I would put myself out there and try and help through DL. When you do that you open yourself up to a lot of criticisms, some of course founded, much not. In today's 24-hour news cycle and internet warrior modality, we sometimes forget that we are all people.

I actually don't mind it and think it is funny, and take it in the spirit it is offered.

I always watch though, and pay attention to those that 'dish it out' to see if they can also 'take it'. Almost always the answer is no. You have to develop some real self management tools, because it turns out that it is much easier to be wrong than right. Typically everyone will agree that others are wrong, but just go flaming ape bonkers when you call them out when they are wrong.

    Anyway, end of speech.

BTW, we tried to use a stunt double but they kept getting hurt so I now have to do all my own stunts.

But of course that 1 point font 'p' might have to be a little bigger and include the letters 'ocket'...

Are the terms Pocket MBA and Mini MBA well known by now? Or it is still no clue to most people in the business industries?

I think Pocket MBAs and Mini-MBAs are not yet well-known. I'm sure most people who've taken them up until now have done so either to squeeze into niche positions or aid in internal promotions.

As to the video: I don't see it being posted on either the Aspen website, the DETC website or on any other professional college-related page (i.e. DegreeInfo, eLearners). It appears to be a personal endeavor caught "on the fly", as others have pointed out. While I'm going to comment in a moment as to how it struck me, I don't see any reason to throw stones at it as it was not an official Aspen or DETC production.

Video impressions: Interviewer had WAY worse beer gut, in my opinion. My only thought to the intrepid Dr. Lady is that the particular day's outfit didn't look that great on video, but if it were an official (and planned) Aspen video he would have worn a killer suit.

Hey, way back in 2010 when we recorded this that shirt/tie combo was in style.

Not only that, being that you are whirlwind traveler, you routinely seem to fly to a meeting at XXXXX, then fly out to catch the next flight to wherever you need to go. Carrying around suits probably does not fit in your busy schedule. You are a doer!
