  2. Excellent. I wonder if "online-only" really means online-only or if there are residency and oral defense requirements.

They charge $114,000 for their Pharm.D,while their MBA is $520 per credit hour. Highly unlikely that this will be an affordable degree.

OK moderators, I am going to answer questions. Watch me to make sure that I am not "shilling"...

The program is brand new and though it has been approved by SACS to be offered, there are still a few details for which we are awaiting word.

The degree is a Ph.D. in Management, with the choice to concentrate in either Strategic Management, Conflict Management or Information Technology Management.

A successful candidate would posses a masters degree from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Dept of Education, CHEA or foreign equivalent, successful completion of an entrance assessment (communication and computational skills), evaluation of graduate coursework and professional experience in the desired concentration and a written essay. The target audience for this degree is mid-career professionals who wish to advance in their field or branch into new fields, adjunct teaching and/or consulting.

I do not have any direct influence regarding tuition, but I know that it will be more than Aspen. I believe that the last figure that I heard was around $700 per unit.

Coursework for the program is available in either online or hybrid delivery. Residency would take the place in the form of an annual professional conference in which students would be able to attend and make presentations and meet with committee members. We are still awaiting word as to whether fully online students will be allowed to participate via web-based synchronous audio/video conferencing or must come to campus at least once.

Online students will have the choice of doing the oral defense of dissertation in person or via live audio/video conference.

Well, moderators, did I get under the "shill"-o-meter?

Tuition for the hybrid-only Executive MBA (EMBA) is $520, the "regular" MBA (online or F2F) is $460.

Our Pharm.D. program has at least four applicants for every slot. Since it is a year-round program, students finish in three years, rather than four. There are only two Pharm schools in our state and the need for pharmacists in our area is so great, many of the current job ads are for six figure positions. Our tuition is not cheap, but is lower than the other (non-profit) private schools in our area and close to that of our local state university.

  6. Can you push your overlords to make this a 100% online program? If so, I might consider it with the conflict resolution emphasis.

My niece completed her PharmD at Nova and it cost almost $100K so $114K is right in line.

This is informational and just what is needed. Now if you said "mention my name and get 15% off, and if you call in the next 15 minutes you will get a set of Ginsu Knives, but wait...there's more! Call now and get a free diploma frame and we can also double your order...."

We are hoping that SACS will let us do that. The course work will be online.

No, that would be Ron Popeil University, where you can get the "Ph.D.-o-Matic" with the "Pocket dissertation" :)

When I called, they said that I had a 30-day money back guarantee, but that the pocket dissertation was mine to keep as a free gift :)

I like the website. It's friendly and informative. I wish that there was a broader range of subject areas offered but I also appreciate the intelligence behind focusing on an area of strength. My experience with "conflict resolution" is limited. Anyone I've ever met who has studied in this area has been integrally involved with labor unions (on one side or the other). I'm wondering if, besides the State Department, there is another career track for this subject area.

When we did an interest survey as part of the demand and feasibility analysis for the conflict management doctorate, we found people coming from court systems, corporations (especially in HR depts.), local government agencies, non-profit organizations, international charities and a bunch of other settings.

Since the university already has graduate programs in conflict management, management of I.T., general management and MBA, it made the most sense to build on the existing program strengths. On the online side, our most popular masters degree is human resource leadership, so we may see a future specialization in that as well. I am working on something related to academia, but it would not be another educational leadership/administration--there are already plenty of those.

For some reason, Sullivan's program pages do not list courses required anymore. While it seems the site may be going through some form of update, I was used to perusing specific course work requirements (in PDF) that accompanied some of the program pages (and the catalog is not very current). I'm saying this because it would serve the interests of potential applicants to have access to specific course requirements for each program before applying. I want to believe a more up-to-date catalog and program requirements will be made available on the respective program pages (just like a few weeks ago) soon. The IT Management concentration in the newly offered PhD in Management sounds very interesting. I guess we'll all have to wait until the program logistics are finalized.

Yes, the new catalog is going to press and the new PhD Program web pages are under development. I can tell you about the course work:

--4 courses in Foundations (many will be able to transfer these from their masters programs).
--3 courses in the Management Core
--4 courses in the Concentration (Strategic, I.T. or Conflict Management)
--5 courses in the Research Core (including both quantitative and qualitative analysis)
    --3 elective courses
    --Comprehesive Exam
    --Dissertation

Their PhD web page shows that there is the option of either online only or online + Saturdays.

The hybrid program with Saturday sessions was developed for a group of international students whose visas did not allow for totally online programs. For the first quarter, we are doing the online only and we will add the hybrid program next year.

It does seem like an expensive degree. Classes at Sullivan are 4 credit hours. Dr. Pina also informed us that the last tuition rate he heard was $700. Going by $2800 per class, which will be the total cost of tuition (excluding fees if any) each class, multiplied by 15 or 16 classes (minimum) that will make up the program, I'm afraid this program is not for folks like me who simply can't afford such high tuition. I intended to apply for the IT management specialization, I guess I need to keep on looking.

  19. I heard from someone that Sullivan is requiring annual residencies where you're to present your research thusfar and an in-person defense of your dissertation. Can you confirm this, Anthony?

Regarding the dissertation defense: Students will have the option of coming to campus or doing their defense via a live audio/video web conference (e.g. iLinc or Elluminate), so, no, they are not required to come to campus for the defense.

Regarding the residency, we will be holding a professional conference each year where students and invited scholars will be able to present and meet. We are awaiting final word from SACS on two items: 1) whether we will be allowed to require one residency, with the others being optional, or whether students have to do a residency each year. 2) Whether our online students may be given the option of participating in the conference via iLinc/Elluminate. So the answer is, yes, there will be a residency and we are hoping that we are able to provide options for meeting the residency.
