I noticed a small change to Nova's Website at: Accreditation "The H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship with endorsement and support from Nova Southeastern University is seeking initial accreditation from the AACSB-International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business)." While I don't know much about their business school, i have a friend that went to law school there and a co-worker doing her doctorate with them via distance. They both speak highly of the school. I hope the accreditation comes through.
I wish Nova offered a doctorate in business. I might be interested, especially with the new accreditation.
They do offer a DBA with several concentrations. I seriously considered Nova but it cost too much for me. My niece just graduated from the Phamacy school with her PharmD and loved the school.
Yea, Nova is even more expensive than Capella, isn't it? Did you ever stop to think that the name "Nova" might not be such a good name for a school? It was an especially lousy name for that 1970's car. No va in Spanish means "Won't go". Just seems funny to my twisted sense of humor. Got my degree from Won't Go University. Making fun of the name aside, I know it's one of the best for-profit schools around.
Hey Andy and everyone else, Do you think that this new AACSB accreditation will overcome some of the barriers that DL degree holders face in trying to get teaching jobs at traditional universities? IOW, do you think that someone with a degree from the new AACSB Nova will have a better chance of landing a traditional university job? I'm not asking for myself, I have no desire to work at a traditional university. I'm just curious.
AACSB accreditation for Nova will help the image of DL, but it will take time for long standing beliefs to change. I would think that if Nova is successful it will move itself up a level in the pecking order of business schools. Don't expect NSU to join the elite schools of the world, however. Thanks for straightening me out on that point. You never know, I might have to look into Won't Go University for myself Especially with that AACSB accreditation, if it goes through. With that, Nova might be the best DL business degree you can get.
If Nova achieves AACSB, it would put them in a similar category with universities like Cleveland State U. In other words, the DBA from Nova isn't going to set the hiring committees on fire but it isn't a deal-breaker either. And when you're looking at what are sometimes incremental qualifications (does the person have publications, does the person have professional references, does the person have the 'right' doctorate) that's an important distinction.
sorry to bump this thread... but wondering if anyone is aware of any updates with this process... I'm currently doing an MBA with them... and would love for the accreditation to come through before I graduate.
Nova Southeastern-H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business accreditation is currently with IACBE (with IACBE just recently gaining CHEA recognition). Certainly far from an absolute, but per Moorhead State University-Moorhead School of Business: “It took 20 years to put the right people together at the right time with the right resources, but MSU Moorhead’s School of Business in January attained the long-sought goal of AACSB accreditation.” Re (p. 2) http://www.mnstate.edu/schoolofbusiness/pdfs/Alumnews_pg04-07.pdf I would like to believe the average AACSB accreditation process is less than Moorhead’s 20-year example; however, it certainly is a comparatively long-term endeavor for any B-School. Note: If my recollection is accurate, I recall reading somewhere that the normal AACSB accreditation process ranges from 2-7 years (?).
