The name of ECE and a statement supposedly quoting James Frey have
appeared on the Web site of Concordia College and University and on the
Web site of Saint Regis University. He never made that statement.
Beginning in January 2003, when we became aware of the situation, we made
several requests to both institutions to have the statement, his name and
title, and the name of ECE removed from their Web sites. We never received
a response. When we reviewed the two Web sites on 21 August 2003, the
information was no longer included on the Web site of Saint Regis
University, but it still appeared on the Web site of Concordia College and
University. We repeated our request to have the incorrect information
    deleted from that Web site.

    ----------------------------------
The quote they are referring to is this one:

''If the institution is recognized by the country's Ministry of Education, it is deemed to hold the equivalency of a regionally accredited school in the US.''

    James Frey, Ed.D., President
    Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc.

We should have an office pool that predicts Len's response to this one.

Concordia C&U operator Kristiaan De Ley has a mixed track record on this type of disinformation. A couple of years ago, on the homepage of the web site of his other mill, Capitol U., he featured the photograph of a world-famous mathematician who was not in the least flattered. That page disappeared very rapidly.

On the other hand, De Ley had secured a listing on a newly created UNESCO page describing distance learning schools. When the page author was advised of the fraudulent nature of the school, the listing was quickly removed. Subsequently the URL changed, yet a description and link to the non-existent page remained on Capitol's pages for more than a year.

Apparently ECE has no idea how many Websites SRU has, and doesn't use Google.

The "Frey" statement can be found at:

    http://www.breyerstate.com/regis.htm Breyer State University
http://www.nahighered.org/faq.htm National Academy of Higher Education
    http://www.internationaluniversity.edu/why.htm The International University
    http://securekc.com/why.htm The International University

Argh, http://www.internationaluniversity.edu/why.htm clearly says: "The International University IS AN AFFILIATE OF ST. REGIS UNIVERSITY". Were we previously aware that SRU has an American .edu domain? :(

Actually Jim knows about NAHIGHERED people, I told him about that one, but since they don't have a "real" address there is no way to send them a cease and desist letter....

Sure they have a "real" address. Just go to http://www.register.com, search for "nahighered.org", and click on "View WHOIS":

A cease-and-desist letter sent to Saint Regis University might work, too.

Quite right. We posted the quote in good faith at the SRU site, having received it from a reliable source. As soon as we heard via the message above from ECE that it wasn't accurate, we removed it.

You'll have to ask Concordia and Kristiaan DeLey about their website policy, concerning which I have no knowledge.

    Who won Dennis's office poll?

    Regards,

    Len.

Can't be that reliable of a source when Jim says he never made that statement.....

And was this "reliable source" a member of the Charles Taylor government?

Since this "source" burned you so badly, I'm sure you wouldn't mind identifying him/her.

By the way, as much as you might claim that St Regis has supported humatarian efforts, my guess is that the you have given FAR more money to the Charles Taylor government.

It seems that St Regis benefits from the instability in Liberia. What better way to continue that than to support both sides?

Mention of SRU has very recently been removed from that Web page. The previous text, still in Google's cache, was:

    is Saint Regis going under?

I wonder if that's a sign of various SRU affiliates deciding to decouple from SRU because of the heat generated by the Spokane Spokesman-Review and Rochester Democrat and Chronicle stories?

Perhaps we'll see continued signs of genuinely off-shore instantiations of SRU arising. Witness Steve Ho's Hong Kong branch of SRU here: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=105715#post105715 and Adino Bryson Guevara's sites: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11444. This could end up like all those sites started by former employees of the Unversity Degree Program.
