Well this forum isn't the only place that the Liberian Minister of Education is not well regarded.

    The rather vigorous tirade at
http://palavahut.tripod.com/Liberia's%20Most%20Wanted%20Fugitives.htm includes education minister Dr. Kandakai as one of "the below listed idiots (who) are partners in crime to Mr. Taylor and are as guilty as he is."

Yes, but in the marketplace, accredited is accredited.

Well that isn't what the powerful and respected American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers thinks, when they disavowed Liberian accreditation last month.

And it isn't what the UNESCO/International Handbook of Universities people in Geneva think, when they decided not to list recently-accredited Liberian schools.

It also is not what the ODA believes.

That's the great thing about the Internet, isn't it. Anyone can put up anything they want, without having to provide a shred of proof for their wacky theories.

This free website takes a shot against some people Liberia is undoubtedly better off without (Taylor) and then lumps in the names of any other minister in his government they can find, presumably by doing an internet search.

Dr Kandakai is not, AFAIK, wanted by the FBI. If she is, it would be interesting to know the charges. Running a ministry of education in a way that some people don't approve of isn't usually a crime. I remain interested to see any evidence whatsoever that she has anything to do with DRUG CONSPIRACY; RAMPANT CORRUPTION; MASS MURDERER; ILLEGAL WEAPON TRAFFICKING; HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE; ILLEGAL DIAMOND TRAFFICKING; VIOLATION OF EVERY ARTICLE IN THE LIBERIAN CONSTITUTION etc etc.

Those who rant loudest generally have the weakest arguments, in my experience.

Some might suggest that taking advantage of the American public by accrediting universities that sell degrees requiring no academic work would be criminal.

I rather doubt that the United States FBI would be offering a reward for Taylor - considering that we required his leaving the county as a condition of any US response.
Last I heard he had gone to Nigeria where he will live as an honored guest...... much as Batista, the butcher of Cuba, lived in the United States and Idi Amin in Saudi Arabia.

AACRAO itself decided that SRU wasn't for them and that they wouldn't evaluate its degrees as US RA equivalent. Good job some of its and NAFSA's members have a touch of independent spirit, though. They have evaluated SRU degrees as RA equivalent and continue to do so to this very day. As you say
in your excellent guide, Dr Bear, it pays to shop around with credential evaluators.

SRU has received absolutely no response to its request to UNESCO that they confirm the information that you have said was sent to AACRAO regarding whether or not SRU will be listed in the next edition of the IHU. Bill Eydler has asked, politely, that you post the email in which this decision was recorded, but you haven't done so. Forgive us if we're a little skeptical in the meantime, then.

If you can confirm this latter information by posting its source and if we can then find out why the IHU has taken the decision it may or may not have done, we'd like to challenge it by taking it up with them. Thing is, we're concerned that the information IHU might have heard about SRU might not be entirely true. We'd like them to know the full story and then come to a fair conclusion.

You'll still find SRU listed on the UNESCO website, by the way ;)

    Regards,

    Len.

  10. Back when he was just a corrupt Liberian official-- long before he graduated to mass murder-- Taylor was briefly held in U.S. custody in a Massachusetts jail while awaiting extradition back to Liberia. Seems the then-government of Liberia wanted to discuss several million dollars missing from the public coffers with Chuckie.

When it appeared to the All-Star that things were going poorly with his attempts to block extradition, he took Door Number Two and escaped from the jail. For a very long while, there was an arrest warrant outstanding for Taylor in connection with that escape.

He's probably safe from extradition now.. but just let him try to fly into O'Hare for a vacation. :D

I wonder if the new government will have laws concerning the selling of accreditation. It will be interesting to see how that all plays out.
