First of All, Happy 4th of July to everyone! I hope you all have had a great day!

    Now, for my Question...

I have noticed that a lot of members have degrees from Pacific Western University. However, their website states their non-accrediation and, according to John Bear's book, they have a questionable history. Is there any new developments with this university that maybe leading them towards accrediation or a respectable future? What has been other's experiences with them?

Could you clarify? Unless you know something I don't, there aren't "a lot of" members here with PWU degrees. Not even close.

In my reading of the posts here on this forum, i do recall seeing PWU in the signature line of some recent posts. Maybe I am wrong, and it my be just one or two individuals that post a lot on the forum. I am sorry for the confusion, but I am still intersted in any info regarding my earlier question.

    Dr.Gina:

I have only observed PWU on very few signature posts. They are California State Approved. I know of no information advising they seek DETC or RA anytime soon.

    Dr.

Most people hear would call PWU a mill because it is unaccredited, but that is what you are going to get here. You may go in many business, and real world enviroments and find different. I only know personally only one person who is a graduate from there. He is the plant engineer for SFOA, and manages the facilities maintenance, and outside projects. He is very good at his job, and we do a ot of work for them. He proudly has his diploma on the wall behind his desk. I think RJT is one of the ones with a degree from there that you have seen here. From what I have seen he takes a lot of **** from the attack dogs here for it, but seems to have found success in the real world.

    Regards,

    Scott

plcscott likes to make up stories. While I don't believe that PWU (in California) would be the best choice out there, I don't recall anyone calling it a degree mill. Although it would be a better choice than the Hawaii branch which has been called a degree mill. Plcscott seems to be saying things that aren't true just to further his own personal agenda. Plcscott, please find one post on this forum where PWU was called a degree mill and provide the link to it. Actually since you claimed there are many why don't you provide many links.

I think RJT has taken maybe more heat necessary for his Kennedy-Western degree but very little for his Pacific Western program.

There is an understanding here that California approved degrees are a step up from Wyoming licensed degrees, but a step or two below accredited degrees. To disagree is to take a swim in the shark tank.

Let us remember that there are three separate and distinct Pacific Western Universities.

One is California-approved, and offers degrees only in business and related subjects.

One uses a Hawaii address, although run from California. It is the one the national TV program American Journal did an episode on, showing an empty room which they identified as the Hawaii 'campus' and featuring an American Journal staff member whom they claimed got his Master's degree in under ten days, start to finish. Their attempt to interview university owner Philip Forte was met with his on-camera refusal to talk; they showed him getting into his Rolls-Royce and driving away.

The third was operated from Canada, and is the alma mater of Norman Pearson, who is apparently the new president of Greenwich University.

So, is it a mill or not Dr. Bear? How can three schools have the same name, and owned by the same people and one be legit?

Exactly! There may still be hope for you. :D

plscott: So, is it a mill or not Dr. Bear? How can three schools have the same name, and owned by the same people and one be legit?

John: How could Hitler have been kind and gentle with his nieces and nephews? How could the Birdman of Alcatraz be a skilled ornithologist? How can Michael Milken be a major philanthropist? How could the owner of a Caribbean medical school send well-trained 4-year full-time students out the front door and sell MDs for $28,000 out the back door? I would be happy to explain human nature to you, but I just don't have time this lifetime.

PS: All three PWUs are not owned by the same people. You said that; I didn't.

What is in the water here? Can you not ask a question here without getting a smart ass remark? Maybe that is why so many people come to this forum, and leave after a short time. I just do not get it, and hope to hell I do not catch it.

    Wow PLC

You really seem to have a chip on your shoulder. What exactly has caused you to be so abrasive to the point of making physical threats over an internet discussion board?

I guess I expected a little more from the god of non traditional education. I have respect for Dr. Bear, and I have even purchased his book.

I found this site a long time ago, and did not post much until recently because I watched so many come hear, and ask questions, and make comments and get treated like dirt. I learned a lot on this site, but over time have just grown to think that this is a cult, and you must think like they do or catch hell. Most people just get out.

I have never been rude to anyone, even if I disagreed with them, unless they were rude to me. I never threatened anyone. I just commented that if these people were as rude in person as they are behind their computer they would sport a raccoon look. I do not see how anyone would want to be a part of this little group.

Duck Boy seems to agree with me, but we have faulty logic. :)

    Om Mani Padme Hummmmmm....

I always wanted to be in a cult. I'm hoping that our cult gets to do Buddhist chants. It wouldn't be much fun without them.

This is, of course, a clever pun relating to the founder of this forum.

One of the occupational hazards of us gods is pedal extremities made of clunch.

When I said, "I would be happy to explain human nature to you, but I just don't have time this lifetime," I was quite sincerely making what seemed a reasonable statement to me. My wife, who happens to have a regionally accredited Ph.D. in philosophy, has said this to me from time to time. It never occured to me that it was smart-ass or dumb-ass or any other kind of ass. Indeed, one time, when it was said, I asked her where I could start learning more about this topic.

It seems that On Human Nature by Edward Osborne Wilson (Harvard University Press, 1988) is one good place to start.

Ag shame. Methinks the lady* doth project too much. PLC and atlas have been snarling at everybody, taking offense, and elevating their dudgeons. They have created a straw man (that all on this board are to hell or Connaught about RA) and delight in knocking it down. Stale and profitless, gents, stale and profitless.

*Not Dr She-Bear--for the excessively literal-minded, it's a turn of phrase.

My feeble attempts at explaining human nature.

I've noticed that when children are scared of the dark, they tend to see frightening things in dark corners that aren't frightening at all once they grow out of it.

I'm sure that mothers who have killed their children were still motherly at times.

Hi Bill Huffman: Quite so. The ancients called this the Via Medea.
