Greenwich University (Sausalito, California) has written to its faculty as follows. I disagree vigorously and have let them know:

Many of you have inquired about Greenwich’s accreditation status, and there is good news about this as well. California has different methods of approving universities from other jurisdictions. There is a lengthy and rigorous state approval process. As a result California state approval is regarded in most countries as equivalent to accreditation, and is accepted by most organizations as such. It is, therefore, not necessary at this stage to apply for WASC accreditation, but we certainly would like to become regionally accredited at some point in the future.

They also state that the Greenwich University now operating in California is the original International Institute for Advanced Studies, a non-profit entity with a new name, and is not connected with the proprietary Greenwich University that has been in Hawaii and Norfolk Island.

Their statement on state approval is simply not supported by the facts. State-approved schools do not generally appear in guidebooks listing properly accredited schools. And while there's some good news coming about the acceptability of state-approved degrees for employment purposes, their statement in that area also seems, uh, er, ambitious.

The notion that they're operating the old IIAS and not the proprietary Greenwich is fantasy. Where has IIAS been all these years if not a part of--and the precedent of--Greenwich?

I guess they'll have to rename it "Greenwhich!

To me the double talk on accreditation versus state approval sounds like the nonsense spewed by degree mills. Most notably that would be Kennedy-Western and their ilk.

    Too bad.

"Double-talk" doesn't begin to cover it. Neither Greenwich University nor "Academy of Intuitive Studies and Intuition Medicine" (which offers DL at the same PO box and address) has yet applied for approval to operate as a private postsecondary institution with the State of California.

Let me amend that. They do list different PO boxes in Mill Valley, but on their websites the two orgs explain their affiliation.

"...is acceptedby most organizations as such."

Would they care to provide a list of those organizations?:p

    It appears that they are:

    At the correct address,
    In the right State
    In the right country.

We insist on quality in Australia and have a few more you may feel free to grant a home to.

Do you also have room for some Australian academics with CA SA degree credentials?

I see from the Greenwich University website that they are now in the process of obtaining approval from the California Bureau of
    Private Postsecondary & Vocational Education.

And yet, as of yesterday at least, both the telephone and the fax numbers had been disconnected.

That does not seem consistent with an application for state approval.

It appears that whatever one clicks, there is only the message that "Greenwich University is in the process of obtaining approval from the State of California Bureau of Private Postsecondary & Vocational Education.
Questions or Comments, please contact: Greenwich University PO Box 1839 Mill Valley, CA 94942 USA."

From what I understand, it might be more accurate to say that Greenwich is in the process of planning to apply for state approval.
