Just a Thought!!! If ( I mean IF) State of California requires all State Approval Universities to apply for accreditation. What do you think is going to happen to all the SA Universities? And which Universities will follow and apply for accreditation? Do you think SCUP, CCU, and those others well- established grandfather State Approval University will follow the trend to apply for accreditation or close down? Kozen
Kozen: Do you think SCUP, CCU, and those others well- established grandfather State Approval University will follow the trend to apply for accreditation or close down? John: I'd predict that those that are financially successful will follow the lead of Century, Kennedy-Western, American Global, and others, and, even though run or controlled from California, will take on an address in Wyoming, Mississippi, or other "We don't care what you do" state or nation.
When California eliminated the "Authorized" category, it gave schools in that group a few years to meet the "Approved" standard. As John noted, many relocated their licenses--if not their actual businesses--to other states and places. There is no indication that I'm aware of that California will require all schools to become accredited. I'm not so sure they could even do it--there's a lot of money at stake and a lot of influence to bring to bear. It would also be a complete "180" on the philosophy behind California permitting unaccredited schools to operate. That is, to allow small or innovative schools to start and prosper. Besides, such a move would transfer a great deal of power from the state government to WASC and other accrediting agencies. That doesn't seem likely. Some DL schools in California have been in operation for nearly 30 years without becoming accredited. What's to change that?
