For what it's worth, an admissions counselor told me today that SCUPS was CONSIDERING going RA and I should have my application in by April 1st for a DBA or Ph.D.

    Any comments or thoughts?

  3. That's worse than hearing, "We are in the process of procuring . . ."

This is a sales pitch that means nothing, and if SCUPS is allowing their admissions counselor to tell you this in the first place, then they are as sleazy as the counselor.

If they were to apply to RA status, achieving it would take several years. And my take is that they would not necessarily get it. I've always viewed SCUPS with suspicion; this is the nail in the coffin.

It would be unfortunate for any representative of an unaccredited school to imply its pursuit of accreditation had any bearing on one's decision whether to enroll.

I think it is reasonable for a school in the accreditation process to state, when asked, where it is at in that process. However, it is coercive and wrong to imply that a student should enroll because of the pursuit of accreditation.

In the case of SCUPS, it is not reasonable to expect they would become accredited prior to your graduation. Also, it is not reasonable to expect they would become accredited in their current form. In fact, we're told that WASC's reluctance to entertain such was a primary motive for creating another school in another state, Northcentral University.

Without more details, it is difficult to establish that this happened. But you say it did, which preponderates. It would be interesting to hear what SCUPS has to say directly from them.

Perhaps SCUPS could be taken over as a "branch campus" of Northcentral? Then we'd have a situation similar to Touro -- accredited school in one state running a non-wonderful in another.

Why do I get the feeling that someone may not like what you just said??

About you applying there? That's your decision and I have no comment.

About them applying to WASC? I'm skeptical.

WASC doesn't even grant candidacy to schools unless there is reasonable chance of the school succeeding. I can think of at least three CA-approved schools that were turned down by WASC and denied candidacy, because their size and format didn't meet WASC expectations.

In order to have any chance at all, SCUPS would have to already be making changes to bring it more into line with what WASC would expect. If we haven't seen evidence of those changes, most likely the story you heard is false.

There are a number of far more impressive CA-approved schools that I expect will apply for RA in the very near future: Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences and Soka University of America come to mind. But I would be very surprised to see SCUPS among them.

Provacative, opinionated, and wrong. Business as usual around here.

  9. Yet another "expert opinion" from Rich Douglas, research assistant emeritus, MIGS.

As opposed to being often-wrong, sometimes-obscene, frequently cowardly, routinely rude, and always-too-weak-to-admit-it? Sounds good to me! :p

You know, the MIGS stuff is nearly three years old now. Not only do you have it way wrong--which you know--but you choose to persist. Either way, you're just repeating the same things. Got anything new?

(Note to oxpecker: Calling your opinion "wrong" was just my opinion, nothing more. Sorry.)

  11. Gee, Rich, I thought I was a sweetheart. :)

Actually, my comment was, in a way, based on my observations of a recent check into the old alt.eduation.distance, where I see that one "Tim Sigler" has been busting your balls again about MIGS. I have no idea who Tim is, although it would appear that his rap is very similar to that of "Samuel Xavier" almost a year ago.

I rarely check A.E.D. these days - perhaps once every several months. And, unlike you, I never post there at all. C'mon, dude, you should know that posting there brings out the wazoos from behind the walls, and you seem to spend an awful lot of time defending yourself on that somewhat dead medium. (For what it's worth, even if I - rather than you - were attacked on A.E.D., I still wouldn't respond. Talk about dead horses compared to MIGS, A.E.D. took its last breath a long time ago; even new inquirers realize that, and come tyo degreeinfo.com instead.

Nonetheless, Rich, be real - you should know that your involvement with MIGS will follow you for a long time. Even you should be able to start playing it for the joke that it was.

So, Rich, stop acting like an amateur. I've been attacked on the Internet far worse than you could ever be, and I learned the fine art of being able to ignore it. Life is too much fun to get hung up with things like that. And on the rare occasion that I throw a zinger in your direction, consider it practice for when you start calling yourself Dr. Douglas (which, as one of the rare things to your credit - you have not yet done, at least to my knowledge) and really have to be able to sit on the hot seat.

    Now, where was I? Oh, yeah . . .

    Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha! :D

How come Steve's is so much bigger than mine? (I refer to size of type, when I select 'huge,' of course).

Sorry, Steve, but "zinger" implies you have some "zing." Not.

Don't think for a minute what you have to say affects me one iota. You're just a punk. Whether you'll stay one is entirely up to you.

Perhaps you should get over yourself. Growing up a bit wouldn't hurt, either.

Because this is turning into the typical Levicoff-started flamewar, I'll give Steve the last word and bow out. For now. ;) (He'll insist upon it anyway.)

This is a typical ploy pulled by con-artists when attempting to reel in a sucker. Promise nothing but do it in such a way that the mark will fill in the blanks themselves, thereby making the illusion of substance out of empty words.

BTW, I'm CONSIDERING being a billionaire. I suggest you start your butt kissing now and perhaps I'll give you a million dollars to play with. :D

Rich thinks it was a crime to stop the Vietnam War without victory. I wouldn't go that far.

You would have beter luck going for the Nobel Piece Prize. If you stick with it at least you would get a big bang out of it.
