    Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, and kind of at wits end :Eyecrazy:.

I initially received my BTL (bachelors in Talmudic Law) from the Rabbinical Seminary where I attended. I then went to the University of Scranton with a scholarship for my masters in school administration and supervision (SBL).

After completing my masters, I applied for my NYS SBL certification, and while my masters was accepted my Talmudic degree was not. The reasoning of the state was that even though the BTL it was not a regionally accreted degree, rather a nationally accredited one by the AARTs (see here: http://www.chea.org/userfiles/Recognition/AARTS.pdf).

So here's the thing, I do not want to spend another three years doing another undergrad, rather, I am looking for a school that would take my degree and transfer a very high percentage of my credits so I can complete and graduate with a regionally accredited undergrad - so I may complete the NYS SBL certification process.

Any leads would be most appreciated.
    Charlie.

There are a number of schools that would take the degree as meeting entrance requirements to grad school. Your problem is different. Excelsior takes non RA credits but they are limited (DEAC is an exception to the limit if I read correctly but yours are not DEAC).

I would think your best bet is to appeal the decision (and keep appealing). Perhaps get a politician involved (but start by following appeal procedures or asking for a variance).

It's going to be faster and cheaper to build a new undergraduate degree. My situation is not exactly like yours, but I had an NA associate degree and tried for years to find an RA program to give me credit so I could finish my BA. In short, once I cut my losses and tested out of my AA (6 months) I had the motivation to power through the rest of my BA (12 months). I think you can do it faster and cheaper if you use Charter Oak or Excelsior.

Charter Oak State College. They have a portfolio option that would allow you to earn credits by assembling prior knowledge- which you have a lot of from your first undergrad degree. They also accept credit by exam and a number of other options for earning credit quickly. You can still use the GRE option there, though I don't know the full extent (high score on a GRE exam = undergrad credit) but you can hit a home run with that too. Excelsior accepts all of these I'm mentioning EXCEPT the GRE- but Excelsior will allow you to petition your NA credit for acceptance. You should investigate both.

If you speak any language other than English, big credit is awarded at both schools for this test. Exam Options and Results

I don't know the content of your first seminary training, but if you can pass any of these exams, you can transfer all of these to Charter Oak or Excelsior. Jewish Subject Examinations - Testing and Training International

Excelsiour is charging 510 USD per credit for undergrad. They also charge other fees so it can become a very expensive option.
Some classes can be accepted via Davar Academy rout about 70$ a class.
The other important consideration is that your classes have to match the degree program classes you are applying for.
For example, BS in Liberal Arts or Studies is the very flexible program.
They will compare how your credits map to the degree. Did you meet Excelsior College requirements for General Education, etc?

You will have to apply and pay 50% for application fee. It includes a preliminary credit transfer report and you will have to order transcripts officially sent by the college.
Once they get all the info and the transcripts you can expect a report within two + weeks.
For official report, you will have to pay 1050 $ and sometimes some classes the preliminary report states will be accessed in official transfer after you paid 1050.
Now if you are planning to take at least 12 credits at Excelsior college they will wave the 1050 fee. (maybe the fee is different now, it was 1050 when I checked in the past)
Remeber 520 $ per one credit.
Yet EC is generous in their transfer of credit.
I know someone who just was able to transfer NA credit about 90 out of 120 needed to graduate. He had additional 50 credits they called excess credit.
So now they need to earn additional 30 credits, they will do what they can with Davar Academy and some classes via EC.
Becuase of the bachelor's degree with a lot of specialized related classes such as accounting etc, the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts was a better choice 60 + 60 the Bachelors of Arts 90 + 30 requirements.
Yuu can check their Web site for additional details and contact the enrollment advisor who will be glad to assist you.

A correction application fee is not 50% but $50.

Enrollment Fee (No fee if you earn 12 course credits at Excelsior) $1,095 includes official evaluation of transfer credits, academic advisement, and academic program planning for the first year.

    Tuition $510 per credit hour

Student Service Annual Fee (SSAF) is $495 x number of years of enrollment after the first year.
    Graduation Fee $495
