SNHU is regionally accredited. As far as institutional accreditation in the U.S. goes, that's as good as it gets. Their accreditation has not lapsed.

They're a regular brick and mortar university. They just happen to have a very successful online presence that they've marketed aggressively. Never heard of any problems with their accreditation or anything else. Funny thing is, they've saturated the market with so many ads people wonder if they're not a flim flam operation. I have a friend who got his masters there. He's an electrical engineer from New Hampshire. One of his fellow engineers asked him if SNHU was accredited or some kind of sham, which is hilarious, because the dude lived just an hour or so from campus, and one would think surely would've heard of them long before they got into the heavy ads, surely must've heard on the news about the results of their sports teams, etc. It's amazing how over the years SNHU has gone from being perceived as a solid uni in New England to people wondering if they're not millish.

It just goes to show you how little people understand about education in the U.S. I have coworkers who insist that the University of Phoenix must not be accredited. I had one colleague, from another company, tell me that she was rejecting all ITT Tech grads because their degrees "weren't accredited." When I pointed out that they were, in fact, NA, she basically said "RA or the highway." She, meanwhile, held a Masters degree from a TRACS school.

I guarantee you if you asked if her Masters was RA she would say yes. And I don't think she would be intentionally lying. I really think that people are under the impression that "RA" means the school is, to their satisfaction, legitimate and could not possibly encompass anything for-profit, online or with TV ads.

SNHU is like "Kars for Kids" around here, you can't turn on a television or radio without being bombarded with advertisements for them. I don't know if that's a nationwide thing, or because I'm in New England.

That being said, they're a very solid RA school. They started as New Hampshire College, and were somewhat pioneers in non-traditional education in New England, they had a weekend college for police officers (or non-police officers interested in Criminal Justice) back in the 1980's where classes were held all day Saturday & Sunday, year-round, and you could earn a Bachelor's degree in a little over 2 years. That option faded away with the explosion of DL and online options.

I always advise people to shop around, but if SNHU offers the program you're looking for, I'd say they should definitely be on your list for consideration.
