Familiar addresses, familiar websites changing hands ... probably a familiar name or two will show up. Matter of time.

According to this, the infamous Concordia College and University was also at one time located in Sioux Falls, as was Bronte International University (newer name for Trinity)

Quite a history here....Bronte, Trinity and Concordia, all in the same town. Saturday night must have been fun. Probably still is, now that the town appears to have three more Universities.

So...the name Trinity probably has more to do with the number of universities using the same address than any religious affiliation, yeah?

I think it has more to do with the fact that the operators of Trinity College and University think that 'Trinity' sounds impressive, credible and academic. TCU is registered in Delaware but operating out of Spain nowadays.

I note Pacific Cambria is now accredited by something called the American Board of Higher Education Commission -ABHEC - WHOIS places ABHEC site behind a privacy screen and on a server in Metairie LA.

I thought SB160, signed in 2001, spelled the end of um, unaccredited educational opportunities, in South Dakota. Apparently they still abound and there's a resurgence. . Somebody tell me what happened?

Some of the material on City University of Sioux Falls site - identical wording on Medical University of South Carolina site. Other stuff - identical wording on University of San Diego site. Hmmm.

More stuff from City U. of Sioux Falls site appears - identically worded - on Pacific U. (Oregon) site. Hmmm again.

CUSF site also contains some description of a master's degree that is identical with wording at Lincoln University of Management in California. That is not surprising -it has been noted (in this thread) that Si Tanka U. in S. Dakota appears closely related to Lincoln . Probably all three schools are closely related - Lincoln , City U. of Sioux Falls, Si Tanka U.

City U. of Sioux Falls appears to have dotted all the i's and crossed all the T's. I read through its application - and South Dakota requires that if a school is not accredited (by a recognized accreditor) it must have an affiliation agreement with one that DOES have such accreditation. CUSF complies. Its affiliation agreement is with California International Business University, San Diego CA - which is ACICS accredited.

You can read about it here, in CUSF's application: https://sdsos.gov/general-informatio...uxFallsApp.pdf
And see California International's site here: Cibu | Cibu

Well, end of one mystery, I guess. How an unaccredited school is allowed to operate in South Dakota. Affiliation agreement with one that is accredited. CUSF has followed all the required steps. If I'd read the school's application to the State of South Dakota thoroughly the first time, it wouldn't have taken 26 posts to get to this point! I'll try reading for comprehension next time.

From 17 years ago: Diploma Mills

A Quote: "At one time, experts said there were at least 20 diploma mills in South Dakota."

Oh, yes - those were the days all right! Hoover U. , Maxipoint U. etc. I'm sure Dr. Bear would remember most of them.

..and there was Bridgeton U. as well. Don't forget that one! Today, I found a late-90s 172-post thread on alt-distance-ed on THAT school. Bridgeton U. claimed to be in South Dakota but was said not to be registered there. Magnificent pile-on by most of the original suspects in the "Gang of 326" or however many.
