Grantham University BSET is now ABET accredited

At least according to the school catalog Grantham University

To me, anyway, this qualifies as a Big Deal. Grantham 's BSET has historically been entirely distance delivered. I think it still is.

Possession of an ABET accredited BSET, in most states, qualifies the holder to take the Fundamenttals of Engineering Exam and if successful, to receive a certificate from the State Board of Engineering as an Engineering Intern, almost on an equal footing with a traditional engineering graduate. Almost because the BSET must accumulate two years of engineering job experience to qualify whereas the engineering grad receives the designation immediately.

ABET resisted D/L for decades. Now, it's entirely possible to qualify as a licensed Professional Engineer solely through D/L study, professional examination, and work experience

    It is a big deal.

I wonder how all of Grantham 's highly vocal detractors are taking this news :-)

Perhaps equally amazing is that ABET accredited Grantham 's BSET program even though Grantham itself is DEAC accredited. Grantham is not R/A!

Toto, I've a feeling we're not with Huey Long any more. We must be over the rainbow!

I've long felt that programmatic accreditation could drastically alter the utility of DEAC degrees. And I think nursing and engineering are prime areas for that launch. Get AACSB to shift on the MBAs and I'd say we have a completely new ballgame (if any DEAC could qualify).

I think this also highlights a discussion from another thread where we consider whether it is even useful to think of it in terms of RA/NA anymore. DEAC is starting to pull away from the regular NA pack much like the faith based accreditors have.
