    Hello,

Long time that I do not post here, and lots have change since. Anyhow, it seems that California Pacific University will be no more (maybe?). So, soon I will be an orphan (speculation). Went to their website and is not functional, tried to call the numbers and all are disconnected. I click on the site and a citation:ASSESSMENT OF FINE AND ORDER OF ABATEMENT PDF from BPPE came up. I have no idea if this have been reporter, so if it was please excuse me I am rusty.:deal:

    Regards

Thanks, I appreciate it. Too bad for them. It was a matter of time for it to hit the fan. Never the same since the original owners.

Right. Usually isn't. I maintained high hopes for the school when it passed from father to daughter, on the founder's demise. Both held accredited doctorates. Just didn't work out, I guess. I never knew the school had been sold until I saw the new owner's name on the BPPE notice.

This marks the passing of the very first school (1976) to have California State approval to award degrees for home-study programs with no residential component. Reports on the site indicated hardly any students in the last years. A sad day - and a commentary, perhaps on the diminishing utility - or at least marketability - of unaccredited schools' degrees, even the better-quality ones.

So, what exactly does this mean? Assessment of Fine and Order of Abatement puts me under the impression that a fine will be issued. Does the "order of abatement" mean that the institution will lose state approval?

The fine ($5,000) has been issued. It's pretty obvious (from the shutdown of the website) that the State is not allowing CPU to operate until this matter is attended to. If you go to the school's site, California Pacific University - you can click on the notice and read all details.

Oh wow, it looks like it's a wrap. Even the Wikipedia page says that Cal Pacific is no longer at the Pinole location. I've always visited this blog and heard nothing but great things about CPU.

Hi Guys, FYI. CPU has been sold and the new owner (Former Law Enforcement PHD, JD and Current U.S. Marshall Reserve Unit Officer) has a meeting with the BPPE mid-next month on time extensions to facilitate CPU's accreditation(s) and clearing up the Abatement. The Abatement was for failure to submit a 2016 report as to the graduates for 2016. There were 49 Students who completed and graduated from CPU in 2016 but the current former owner failed to submit the report. There's a new website in process. Here's the new number and contact information for all who needs it. They will reply to any questions and concerns.

They are not shutting down, they are in the process of upgrading and adding 4 more degrees of study Associate of Science in Systematic Theology as well as gaining accreditation. They are still current on the BPPE website and have no plans of closing, just changing ownership and upgrading.

New Programs that are being added are as follows:
Bachelor of Science in Systematic Theology
Master of Science in Systematic Theology
Doctor of Philosophy in Systematic Theology of study

I hope this explains your concerns,

    Cheers!

Degrees in Theology..that should be interesting. Regardless, its great news to know that CPU will still be state-approved.

That's not true. From the Abatement Order: "To date, the institution has failed to file its 2014 Annual Report."

    See it here: http://www.bppe.ca.gov/enforcement/actions/citation_1516079.pdf

The school's website, California Pacific University now says: "This site is currently being turned over to a group of Alumni graduates as per State Bureau's mandate. It will be restored soon. Email [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you."

Real accreditation, CHEA/USDoE recognized, I hope? State Approval (BPPE) is not accreditation. Never was, never will be.

    Good luck.

Note: Although CPU operated successfully without accreditation for nearly 40 years, I asked about accreditation for a reason: Unlike the old days, California now has an "accredit or die" law, whereby an unaccredited (BPPE approved) school must attain recognized accreditation within a given period of operation - usually 5 years, I believe - or discontinue. I suppose the new CPU could get a religious exemption for the new degrees, but if it intends to continue its business programs, accreditation will be mandatory at a future point.

True! It's possible they may receive a Religious Exemption or seek accreditation by either the DETC or Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Only time will tell. They have until July of 2017 to make something happen. If not, they may close down but the last I heard they are in the works for Accreditation (Chea) and new Management/Ownership. Only time will tell. We shall see, but they are officially still open and current on BPPE and still have a pretty good name after 40 years :)

Thanks J, My fault. I mean't an extension from the BPPE's deadline of July 2017 to get accreditation; hence the meeting with BPPE. But you are absolutely correct. It has to be CHEA/ESDoe recognized. Hopefully this will happen. If not, well like you said in your prior post "They had a Good Run" :)

Wow!! What in the world? The government aren't playing around. Well, I guess the only option is "Religious Exemption" or "DETC." ACICS has been around for a long time. It's a sad day for them and all schools who are accredited by them. I wonder what's going to happen to all the schools who are accredited by ACICS?

What in the hell?! ACICS is no longer a recognized accreditor. It's getting real out there; how does this affect current students? BTW, CPU is no longer an active school on the BPPE website.

Not true. CPU is no longer listed as an approved school. I check stuff like that.

This is true. The only place you will find CPU is on the BPPE list of schools that have received sanctions - here: Disciplinary Actions - Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education

The sanction is obviously still in effect. I'm sure the BPPE wants its $5000 - and the missing 2014 report.

I guess former students need to request their transcripts ASAP. It does not look good and it appears that CPU is no longer in the game.

As my father used to say, cash is king! It kind of sucks because smaller schools such as CPU and other state-approved schools cant afford to pay those types of fines. I saw that Georgetown University had been fined as well, but it would hardly put a dent in their budget.
