helping out a young co-worker with BS completion. He brought me a degree from Anthem/High Tech Institute. They look unaccredited to me, he attended in 2007. ANyone know the scoop on these guys?

    $38,000 for an AS....yikes!

The schools that remain appear still to be ACICS accredited; the chain seems to have been through troubles - bankruptcy, ownership & name changes etc. From the Wiki:

"In 2013, the company operated 34 campuses in various states and one online institution before closing most of its campuses.
In August 2014, Anthem Education Group filed for bankruptcy and closed abruptly in several states."

    thanks Johann,

This school looks like a real mess. My friend is looking for an RA bachelors degree, I think he has some work to do...while he continues to pay off the condo size bill for his ACICS AS.

I wish your friend success and I'm glad he now has someone knowledgeable to help him to get where he needs to go.
It never ceases to amaze me how some schools can get so many students, at these prices. An RA Bachelor's could have been completed from square 1 for considerably less than the cost of this ACICS AS.

Our system isn't perfect, but some situations are avoidable in Canada. Only properly-chartered Universities (and some Colleges) can award degrees. There are private career schools galore and even a couple of the US big names, e.g Herzing. In Canada, all licensed schools can award certificates and diplomas - but not degrees.

On a good for him note, looks like he qualifies for a small PELL grant ($3700/yr) and he also gets $1500/yr from our employer....if he wants it, I can probably see him to a BS in a couple of years with that.

    Thanks again Johann!

    Rebel100,

I have a AS in Drafting and CAD from Anthem College (High-Tech). They accepted many credits tech credits and took the English and other credits online. The school was very good, quite legit. Unfortunate they didnt survive fully in tact.

Employers saw a AS in drafting from an accredited school . . . .and they never questioned it.

I was able to transfer my AS from Anthem (as a block) to my BSBA program.

    Regards,
    Michael

Yes, I've advised him to send the transcripts to COSC and see what they say. Might have him send to TESC too. Care to share who took your AS as a block transfer?
