    British University of Paris

Located in Paris, offering degrees - Bachelor through Doctorate by VAE and APL. www-dot-british-university-dot-co-dot-uk

Site says "get your valuable British Degree through the APL." Yet it clearly states school is located and registered in France - and it appears that it is not listed by the UK Government as a British degree-granting institution.

Whois lookup gave me something about the same address (8 Rue Jacquard) as École Supérieure Robert de Sorbon, a school on which we have plenty of threads. No affiliation (and none claimed) with either American University of Paris or University of London Institute in Paris - both 100% legit schools.

On its webpage, this school claims "Its degrees are recognized internationally including many US Credential Evaluators for university admissions and immigration."

This doesn't really change anything, but my first sentence (Post #1) should NOT read "located in Paris." Possibly, it should be "has a UK domain but registrant gives French address." 8 Rue Jacquard is in Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy, which is 359.1 KM from Paris - in Meurthe-et-Moselle.

    My bad. Apologies.

Ecole Superiore Robert de Sorbon has received a fair amount of attention partly due to the intricacies of the French high ed system as well as their accreditation system. Also, they were the subject of one of our early "Threat of the Week" threads (which, of course, makes them near and dear to my heart)

I wouldn't be surprised if this "British U. in Paris" - is farming out its VAE process-or-whatever to the de Sorbon "school" - at the same address. I can't be sure, but perhaps it's just an avatar of ESRDS itself- seeking those who'd prefer their degrees from a "British" (i.e. British-sounding) school. Note: British University in Paris appears to be a complete misnomer. It has no British degree-granting authority, and, as far as I can tell, whatever there is of it is located 200 miles from Paris. And is it really a University? You decide.

"... the Holy Roman Empire was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire." - Voltaire.
"The Emperor has no clothes." - Hans Christian Andersen

Interesting - the British U. in Paris page says an applicant pays the complete VAE fee either way - whether the degree is granted or refused. So, British U. in Paris is saying they can take someone's money and still refuse them a degree. Oh yes - in case ESRDS threatens to sue us again, here's an article on the de Sorbon proprietor's 2011 fraud conviction. École Robert-de-Sorbon : le directeur condamné - 15/10/2011 - La Nouvelle République Vienne

He got a stiff fine, - 15,000 Euros, but the school could not be closed - it had to be left in operation, for specific French legal reasons. Last line: "Robert-de-Sorbon conserve la faculté de diplômer qui bon lui semble." Roughly, "RDS retains the right to graduate whom it pleases." And so, on and on it goes...

Yes, I saw that. I thought it unlikely that there were two wholly separate enterprises in the same building- but seeing the registrant's unfamiliar (to me) name, I left room for any remote possibility. I don't really know why I did that, but I don't think it really matters. Just one of my many quirks, or are they quarks?

BTW - I noticed brand-new poster str1975 (who started the other thread) has made the same enquiry about this school elsewhere -where it is also his first post. Is he "seeding" discussions for some reason? C'mon, str1975 - what is your affiliation, if any, with this school?

I might be able to muster some interest if they had a science program. Something leaning toward the medical field like organic chem or microbio. Something like that.

No my friend, no affiliation with that "university".. I am just a guy seeking an affordable college online for a homeland security degree (because i am a Coast Guard officer for 18 years), and i found that school interesting, but too good to be true, so i had to ask... It was a big surprise for me too when i logged in the next day of my question, and saw an identical thread! But it was very useful, so thank you..

Myself, I'd prefer to be on vacation in Meurthe et Moselle - home of Proust's famous madeleines, and Gris de Toul wines - white wines made with red grapes. I wonder how the mirabelles are this year? (They're small yellow plums grown there, often made into pie.) I haven't had any wine in about 11 years, but I could do with some madeleines (small butter-cakes) or a couple of helpings of delicious mirabelle pie.
