Almeda College & University - for real?

I am 6 months from graduation at Capella U with a MS in Information Technology. I find the coursework to be about as difficult as the classes I took at the very traditional University of Illinois, and they tell me they are accredited. My BA is in Anthropology. My dad is a prof at a NC University, and is suspicious of ALL distance learning.

I am looking at Almeda for some validation of the 15 years I have run my own small businesses. It is not critical that I get the paper, but it would be pretty cool. I am not interested in a bogus degree. (have 2 - a Doctorate from the Order of the Dark Night, a Thelemic religious organization, for which I did produce a thesis and a religious ceremony; and a DD from Universal Life Church, for which I sent them $100.00) I have never used either in my resumes or anything else, for I am not interested in splitting hairs over the metaphysical absurdity of anybody getting a degree for studying Divinity - as if this is scientifically possible. Most of the holders of "real" religious degrees that I know of have studied ancient literature, ministerial credentials and comparative religion, which are possible to study. I ran a church for 5 years, and so if I were still running the church, I would probably make some use of these degree papers.

I am looking to complete a PhD in business at one of several schools: Capella, which has basically accepted me
Georgia Tech, Emory and the University of Georgia. These last three are interesting to me because they are all good schools and are all within 30 miles of me. I loved the college life and want to go into college instruction when I complete the PhD. I am not worried overmuch about my chances to succeed at any of these schools, for I am a Straight A student and organized enough to keep at it for the time required.

Thus, the degree from Almeda would be just for my own entertainment, but it wouldn't be much fun if nobody took it seriously - just in case I get into a situation where it could actually hurt my career.

No one should take it seriously. That's a significant amount of money to waste on a diploma with no more utility than one you could print yourself.

Sidenote: My little brother graduated from Georgia Tech and he is currently a professor in the state university system in Tennessee.

Initially, I had no desire to get a doctorate. But now that I see light at the end of the masters tunnel, I am seriously considering the doctoral program at Capella.

The ODN is a group of Crowleyan magicians, which is to say they follow the works of Aleister Crowley. This is more about literary criticism than magick, perhaps. There are only 3 grades with names in the group. Neophytes, Fellows and Doctors. They charge no fees and do not advertise themselves widely. It is the reclusive nature of the group that makes a doctorate thereof bogus, in my opinion. Nobody in particular has heard of the organization, and they like it that way.

 

Since no one else seemed to answer this implied question, yes Capella has Regional Accreditation (RA).

John: It never hurts to ask, and to check. The next edition of Bears' Guide will list something like 200 unrecognized accrediting agencies, the vast majority of them fake.
