I've been railing for years that DEAC should NOT be in the institutional accreditation business. Instead, it should be in the programmatic accreditation business, accrediting DL programs (and, by extension, some schools) by developing and applying standards for what is and is not an effective DL program.

Because DEAC (and other NAs) is a first stop for some DL schools to get accredited, they appear to be 'easier' than RA. That, coupled with the fact that RA still rules in so many places, leaves DEAC always trailing...and redundant. But if they focused on DL, they could teach a lot of schools a lot of things on their (the schools') way to DEAC accreditation. I realize this would be a seismic shift for DEAC--but what a wonderful adventure it would be.
