Distance Education Groups Criticize State Authorization Proposal

    The states are asserting their muscle, trying to require each school--no matter where it is located--to be authorized in each state in which they have distance students. You can imagine the bureaucratic nightmare. Well, now some parties are pushing back:

    Can you imagine having to be licensed in every state, and then maintaining it? Insane.

    Licensure where you are, I can understand. But this, this will crowd out small players who don't have the resources to go through 56 state and territory licensure processes just to be able to enroll a student or two from that jurisdiction. It's pretty ironic that this administration that's otherwise been so hostile to big for profit schools would propose something like this, that would probably crowd out a lot of their competition.
